hp wireless button changes airplane mode

I just upgraded my 64 bit HP Pavilion g7 2010 nr to windows 8. now, whenever i try to use the wireless button (Fn + F12) it changes the airplane mode instead of wifi.

ive updated my wifi card drivers (Ralink RT5390) and and the HP wireless button driver as well

i can use ethernet, but im at school and its not always easy to find a ethernet port

theres no other way to get wifi on because the troubleshooter says to "make sure the switch is turned on"

    I had the same problem with my HP laptop with a Ralink RT3290 wireless adapter.

    I was able to solve the problem by doing the following:

    Open Network and Sharing Center

    Click Change Adapter Settings

    Right-click the wireless network icon, and select Properties

    Click the Configure... button for the wireless adapter at the top

    Click the Advanced tab, click the Radio On/Off property, and change the value to Enable

    Close all the windows.

    Now the wireless function key should switch between airplane mode and showing the wireless networks.

    I have a dv6-6c16nr and I had the same problem, no WiFi. I gave up on windows at the time and installed Ubuntu in multiboot. Surprisingly, turning on my WiFi in Ubuntu also left it on for my windows. I know its the most long winded method but the results are definite. Oh and installing Ubuntu to a partition is a separate paradox that you may not want. Anyway, to all those people duo booting, linux toggling will affect windows.

    I talked to at least a dozen HP reps until finally one offered to take the laptop in for warranty and said, "if we can't fix it, we will replace it."  They sent FEDEX to pick up the laptop, sent it back via FEDEX.  FIXED!  

    Then about a month later, the video started acting up.  Warranty repair again...   I told them in addition to the video, the keyboard never worked properly... space bar was almost solid and no play meaning that I would have to hit space several times occasionally to get a space.  They replaced the system board and keyboard. Now, knock on wood, seems to be working 100%.

    I think they replaced the system board the first time but not sure.  I don't care at this point. It works.

    The only problem, other than the aggravation, was having to re-activate several programs that saw a different system once the system board was changed.

    I give HP high marks for their service.

    I tried this and it worked perfectly..

    Make sure you disconnect the laptop if it is connected with an ethernet cable and then try this network troubleshooter..

    Even i have a similar problem but its after upgrading from win 8 to win 8.1 though i can use wifi i cannot switch it of using that key the driver for HP wireless buttton is not conpatible is what i have identified.

    try upgrading your HP wireless buttton driver for win 8.
