hp wireless button changes airplane mode

I just upgraded my 64 bit HP Pavilion g7 2010 nr to windows 8. now, whenever i try to use the wireless button (Fn + F12) it changes the airplane mode instead of wifi.

ive updated my wifi card drivers (Ralink RT5390) and and the HP wireless button driver as well

i can use ethernet, but im at school and its not always easy to find a ethernet port

theres no other way to get wifi on because the troubleshooter says to "make sure the switch is turned on"

    Hi,

    It’s a great opportunity to assist you with the issue. As you reported that the issue is with the function keys. We need some more information to assist you in a better way.

    1.      Did you make any changes after installing windows 8 and updating drivers?

    2.      Did you try to install the display drivers in compatibility mode?

    Here is what you need to do to run the display drivers in compatibility mode.

    a.       Download the display drivers from the manufacturer’s website.

    b.      Right-click on the driver setup file and click on Properties.

    c.       Click on the Compatibility tab and check the box Run this program in compatibility mode for and select Windows 7 operating system from the drop down.

    d.      Click on Apply and click OK and run the file to install it.

    There were no changes made to windows 8 after installation (in regards to drivers and settings) except for the drivers coming from windows update or HP's website. No display drivers were installed.

    originally, all of the function keys worked except for the wireless one, then, after installing the HP wireless button driver, the button changes airplane mode instead of wifi. ive tried installing the driver as administrator, and in compatibility mode as well, but it always has the same result

    I am having the same problem.  Have to remove the battery from my DV7-7047CL laptop and hold power button down 30 seconds.  Then it MAY reset and work once, until I shut down.  Next time I power up...same problem.  Amber button that only switches on/off Airplane mode.

    Question:  Should we completely remove Ralink drivers and let Windows 8 handle it?  Or are there no Win 8 Drivers to support this built into the 64 bit install?

    i think the issue might be with the wireless button and not the wireless drivers, because i had to install the driver for the button, and the button didnt do anything before i had installed the driver for it
