hp wireless button changes airplane mode

I just upgraded my 64 bit HP Pavilion g7 2010 nr to windows 8. now, whenever i try to use the wireless button (Fn + F12) it changes the airplane mode instead of wifi.

ive updated my wifi card drivers (Ralink RT5390) and and the HP wireless button driver as well

i can use ethernet, but im at school and its not always easy to find a ethernet port

theres no other way to get wifi on because the troubleshooter says to "make sure the switch is turned on"

    First u have to do some tough job....

    -->IF you installed the HP Hotkey Utility Driver installed, then uninstall it first.

    -->Click the network Panel (monitor icon) in the taskbar.

    -->Set Airplane Mode to OFF

    -->Set Wi-Fi to ON

    -->Restart your PC with the Wi-Fi ON

    -->Now the thing that happens after your PC restarts, if you keep the airplane mode to ON the Wi-Fi stays OFF and if you keep the airplane mode to OFF Wi-Fi turns back ON. That means your Wi-Fi adapter is working properly. But the F12 button still doesn't work as the driver is not installed.

    -->go to this link,    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59501-60000/sp5983

    -->download the HP Hotkey Utility Driver and install it..and see the magic..everything works fine.

    Actually the main thing is that the airplane mode has to be always ON to keep the WiFi OFF and if you press Fn+F12 now the Airplane mode will turn OFF and Wi-Fi will turn ON or vice versa.

    That's it...I think this will help...Thanx a lot.

    Even i had the same problem ., after upgraded..,    I tried all steps in net ., and the all the "f12" drivers .., But nothing Worked.., finally i found one way to enable the wifi .,

                      " After starting my laptop ., if i press f12 it will work on flight mode.., step to enable the wifi is., just put the pc to sleep and and again on the pc .., it really working for me..,

    Hi, it worked FOR ME and it was that simple.  Not saying my issue was EXACTLY the same as everyone's,  maybe very similar.  As well, my issue was last night, not a year ago... That's why I was trying to find an answer then and I just kind of took a bit of info from here and there on reading other ppl posting.  Anyway, I'm good!  You have a good one--

    This issue was resolved about a year ago and it was not that simple.  It required a BIOS upgrade and a functional Wireless Button driver.  What you "figured out" was not the answer, but thanks.

    Hello Everyone, 

    After researching for 30/40 mins... I finally figured it out.  Got home today and f12 button was lit and my computer was sayn "airplane mode" so of course it was not picking up wifi.

    EASY SOLUTION:

    From start menu just start tying Control Panel (click to the left of screen)

    Click Network and Sharing

    I believe I clicked Network information and Set Up Connections.

    I right clicked and area that said wifi disabled and I clicked on Enable,,

    If the ending is incorrect, just play around until you see the screen that says Disabled and click on Enabled.

    Sorry tried to go back and trace every step but it would not let me.
