hp wireless button changes airplane mode

I just upgraded my 64 bit HP Pavilion g7 2010 nr to windows 8. now, whenever i try to use the wireless button (Fn + F12) it changes the airplane mode instead of wifi.

ive updated my wifi card drivers (Ralink RT5390) and and the HP wireless button driver as well

i can use ethernet, but im at school and its not always easy to find a ethernet port

theres no other way to get wifi on because the troubleshooter says to "make sure the switch is turned on"

    Thank you!!!

    I followed these steps:

    1. remove battery and unplug power supply
    2. press and hold power on button for 30 seconds
    3. leave battery out but plug power supply back in 
    4. press power on button and then tap on the f10 key immediately (a number of times) (I did have to hit escape here instead and get into BIOS, but this is specific model dependent I guess) 
    5. the bios setup menu appears
    6. select reset defaults (load default values)
    7. select save and exit

    Worked perfectly on my hp 431 laptop!

    I found this solution myself after hunting around. It worked fine for me .I agree that HP should fix this problem. I still don't know what makes it happen in the first place?  I hope I rem the solution the next time this happens. (This time was the second and I had forgotten).

    UNDERSTAND THE SLIDER WILL NOT TURN WIFI ON EVEN WITH AIRPLANE MODE OFF!
