Need more accurate computer diagnostic tools to find and fix problems

Original Title: Why does nothing work?

Why are there no accurate computer diagnostic tools? OK. So I have some computer problems. It is not recognizing the sound card and several other things, six in all, yellow exclamation marks beside the DVD drive, OHCI compliant something or other, generic PnP Monitor, the processor (fer gawd's sake, how is it even working?), HD sound card and the PCA standard ISA bridge.

Oh yeah, first of all its a virus, then it is OEM software, so contact them. With all this, the last advice I can get is to reformat the drive and reload Win7, oh yes, and reload all my software, that at least two weeks work. And if that does not fix it, it is a hardware problem!! Why don't we just replace the mobo and see if that is it?

It is like having car problems and the garage says, "Oh yeah, we will just replace the motor and power train and see if that is the problem. If it is still there, it might be the chassis.".

What I want is a diagnostic tool that will examine the computer and pinpoint the problem and fix it. Is this too much to ask - Bill Gates? We have this for our cars. After all this time, it should be possible. In computer problems, there is way too much try this, try that. Time to switch to MAC... or Linux.

Yes. I know that is what cod 3 says, but the drivers have been deleted and replaced, so that doesn't seem to be the case, and the system has 2G of RAM, 1 gig free.

View Reliability History - I did as you suggest, but I don't see that item there. Oh, My mistake, I do see it now.

What a great tool! This seems to be where the serious problems started on April 18

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.  The bugcheck was: 0x0000008e (0xc0000005, 0x9bbfd674, 0xa4087b00, 0x00000000). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 041912-19047-01.

    No solutions available right now.

No such folder c:/Windows/MEMORYDMP that I can see.

Windows Installer reconfigured the product. Product Name: Platform. Product Version: 1.34. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: VIA Technologies, Inc.. Reconfiguration success or error status: 1602.

They don't target device drivers but the mechanism for the recognition and use of the drivers may have been compromised..

All will be revealed, no doubt..

Please post a copy of your dumpfile as a shared file to your Sky Drive with a link here. You most likely need to show hiden files -see below.

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproui/thread/4fc10639-02db-4665-993a-08d865088d65

For advice on how to configure your system to create dump files please read:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/254649

The dumpfile will be created at c:\windows\minidump. You may need to change your settings in Windows to be able to see the file. To show hidden files type Folder Options in the search box above the Start button and select View, Advanced Settings and verify that the box before "Show hidden files and folders" is checked and "Hide protected operating system files" is unchecked. You may need to scroll down to see the second item. You should also make certain that the box before "Hide extensions for known file types" is not checked.

Yes. I always have those options on, but there is nothing in the folder, no dump file. I checked that the system is configured to save a complete memory dump. The file is specified as %SystemRoot%\MEMORY.DMP, but there is no such file on the machine, minidump folder or anywhere else.
