Need more accurate computer diagnostic tools to find and fix problems

Original Title: Why does nothing work?

Why are there no accurate computer diagnostic tools? OK. So I have some computer problems. It is not recognizing the sound card and several other things, six in all, yellow exclamation marks beside the DVD drive, OHCI compliant something or other, generic PnP Monitor, the processor (fer gawd's sake, how is it even working?), HD sound card and the PCA standard ISA bridge.

Oh yeah, first of all its a virus, then it is OEM software, so contact them. With all this, the last advice I can get is to reformat the drive and reload Win7, oh yes, and reload all my software, that at least two weeks work. And if that does not fix it, it is a hardware problem!! Why don't we just replace the mobo and see if that is it?

It is like having car problems and the garage says, "Oh yeah, we will just replace the motor and power train and see if that is the problem. If it is still there, it might be the chassis.".

What I want is a diagnostic tool that will examine the computer and pinpoint the problem and fix it. Is this too much to ask - Bill Gates? We have this for our cars. After all this time, it should be possible. In computer problems, there is way too much try this, try that. Time to switch to MAC... or Linux.

What is your comouter make and model? If it is not a branded computer what is your motherboard make and model? In what country was the computer purchased?

Not branded, ASUS M3A76-CM mobo, AMD 9750 quad core Phenom, 2 Gig Ram, etc., etc, made in Canada.

    2.      Device Manager shows 6 problem devices. We need to resolve these errors. The previous attempt to resolve these failed as image 4 reveals.

    That would be nice.

    6.      Memory test error. I cannot ever recollect seeing that message. Is it occurring during the boot process? It says that the memory test, which is part of every normal boot, cannot be carried out. Late edit:  What removable mass-storage devices are or have been connected to the computer?

used to have a 160 G LaCie external but no more.

    8.      The StartUp and Recovery window is not showing the selection of a Default operating system. Use the scroll to select Windows 7.

Nothing in the Window to set, presumably because there is only one OS installed?

    9.      The Windows Security Center cannot be started. Please check the status of Services. You are interested in Remote Procedure Call (RPC) and Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) which should both be set to Automatic and have started. These are the services the Security Center needs to be able to start.

Click on the Start button and select Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Locate the required service in the list. Check that it has started and that the StartUp type is Automatic. If it is not set to Automatic right click and select Properties, General tab. There is a box after StartUp type. The options are available on a drop down by clicking on the arrow down to the right of the box. Make the change and click on Apply and OK. Restart the computer and check whether it has started.

They are both set as you suggest.

I suggest you run a check for malware

Download and install Malwarebytes (freeware version for home users only), update definitions and run in safe mode. Disable other security software whilst you are doing scans.

Download and run SuperAntiSpyware (Free Edition)http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html

Done and done again with MB and SuperAnti.

I am now able to comment on the images in your Sky Drive:

    1.      The chkdsk report as you say reveals no problems.

    2.      Device Manager shows 6 problem devices. We need to resolve these errors. The previous attempt to resolve these failed as image 4 reveals.

    3.      Folder options seem to be correct

    4.      Image 4 shows that an attempt to update drivers for 4 devices failed.

    5.      I am unable to interpret what the Memory means. I need to carry out further research.

    6.      Memory test error. I cannot ever recollect seeing that message. Is it occurring during the boot process? It says that the memory test, which is part of every normal boot, cannot be carried out. Late edit:  What removable mass-storage devices are or have been connected to the computer?

    7.      As you say no minidump file has been created.

    8.      The StartUp and Recovery window is not showing the selection of a Default operating system. Use the scroll to select Windows 7.
