can I use send to mail recipient with the mail app?

That's not very helpful to those of us who really hate those stupid "apps" and want to stick with tried-and-true programs that work, that don't take over the entire screen, and that have a proper "close" mechanism. Windows 8.1 really has a long way to go before it's as useful as WIndows 7.

The best answer I can find to the original question is to forget about the right-click option, at least until it's fixed, and do the attachment from inside your mail program. In Thunderbird, for example, it's easy to find the "attach file" button.

I know it's not the "right" solution, but it is very easy to download and install Windows Live Mail 2012 into Windows 8.  You don't need to make it your default email client, just default for the "Send to Mail Recipient" menu option.  At least that way the functionality still works, and you can use drag and drop when you need it.  You can still use the metro app the rest of the time...

I agree. The general idea of metro+desktop is good but it has a lot of problems right now. Set default applications from desktop to metro and vice versa should is a must need.

It's not fixed in Windows 8.1....there's no way to select a file or multiple files and send via email with the metro email client. I'm a huge fan of Win 8 but this is just laughable come on MS comment on this thread ?????

Microsoft does not have a clue what anyone is talking about when you right click on a photo or document anywhere on  your computer and choose mail to recipient and then a screen comes up that lets you pick what size you want to send and then click ok--it prepares to send and then nothing happens.  The only answer they have is to add an email address or use the share jewel (what a joke)

I have been trying to find a solution for over 2 months and nobody has helped me.  someone gave a link for .dll file association and that was a total bust.  I was on the internet on the Microsoft help desk for 1 hour and he never answered the question.  He said he had to discuss it with someone else.  After 20 minutes I asked him if he really worked for Microsoft and he said he did.  He did not answer anything else.  I would get replies that he appreciated me waiting.  I ended the connection.  He did not have a clue.  If you use the share jewel as they call it, you can attach a file and email it but you have to hand enter the address in.  It will save the ones you hand enter but will not connect you to your address book.  It will not re-size the photo so (mine are 10 MB or larger) so you are stuck.  It doesn't have anything but the To: box, no CC or BCC--they really destroyed a good thing with XP when they came up with Windows 8 which I was forced to buy.  I should have gone and bought an Apple--
