Original Title: All of a sudden internet backgammon not working

Just your basic Windows 7 Laptop. Everything was working fine. Started playing internet backgammon....won EVERY game yeah! Took a break for an hour or so...came back and now have message telling me there is a problem connecting to the internet game server.  Anybody know what is wrong??  What it specifically says is "A Network error occurred while communicating with the game server." What the heck does that mean?

Hi,

1.     Which browser are you using?

2.     Are you facing same issue with any other games like internet spades?

I would suggest you to follow these methods and check.

Method 1: **** You may check if the issue appears in a clean boot state.

Refer this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

If the issue gets resolved, check which non-Microsoft service is causing the problem; referring to the article and following other steps.

**Note:**After you check the functionality in clean boot configure Windows to use Normal startup using the step 7 suggested in the link mentioned above.

Method 2: Temporarily disable the security software and check if the game works fine.

Refer this link: Disable antivirus software

**When you disable Antivirus:**Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 3: If the above step fails, temporarily disable Windows firewall and check if the game works fine.

Refer this link: Turn Windows Firewall on or off

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off

Note: After checking the functionality turn on Windows Firewall.

Hope this helps!

(guy posts about playing backgammon via Microsoft Games)

(Microsoft tech's reply is "Which browser are you using?")

IT DOESN'T USE A BROWSER. The game is BUILT IN TO WINDOWS.

Jesus... that's like the time a Mazda mechanic asked if my RX-7 was "the one with the V-6 in it".

How the **** do idiots get hired who can't retain basic product knowledge?

I agree, this is so frustrating, and all too regular.   It's worse than ever this week, just dropping games randomly mid-play.  They have no incentive to fix it because it's free, and Windows 7 is on its way out.  Total bummer, I do love Backgammon and Checkers...

It has happened innumerable times since I posted on Jan 26.  In fact, just today - and I ran the gamut of suggested fixes that offered ZERO results.  The two previous days it was dropping the game (with the same error message) as it did before but in the middle of a game.  Microsoft really needs to either drop the game altogether or fix whatever is wrong.  It's very frustrating.  As Erin Mc44 said above, I'd be willing to pay .50 per month to keep the game because it is the best one I have found on the internet

    • WHEN it's working.  But it doesn't work more than it does work, or at least it seems that way.

This happens all the time.  You can either not get started or when you do, it drops you mid game.  Come on Satya.... how long did it take to lose the windows phone?  Which was a money LOSER.   You could probably make a small profit charging people to play... it is one of the best  Backgammon games on the internet.  I'd pay .50 a month to play.....
