Can't install a language pack

I tried formatting the hard drive and re-installing the software several times. However I could not fix the bug.

So I asked a friend of mine to borrow a dvd with the language I wanted. Then I used my serial and solved the problem.

Hallo all! I have the exactly same problem with Italian language pack! I have try some troubleshoting task but no way!

• Installed with manual process -> Dism offline and online
• Installed with lpksetup -> http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc748922(v=ws.10).aspx
• Cleaned temp file and all reg
• Cleaned the SoftwareDistribution folder
• FIx all Windows Update errors

All this issue fail to resolve the problem, and if the only problem is to refresh or re-install the PC... Microsoft can close this forum and support... ;-O

Then please Microsoft support give soon one solution for this problems...

Same error on my system, but (less than) funny thing is:

"Chinese (simplified)" => cannot be installed with the well known meaningless (KB2607607) reference.

Completely cleared SoftwareDistribution (in case there were a problem with Windows Update)

Tried again with "Chinese (simplified)" ==> Same error.

Tried "French" ==> Installed flawlessly

Tried "Spanish" ==> Installed flawlessly

Tried "Chinese (simplified") again ==> Error (though completely fresh download)

Completely cleared SoftwareDistribution again

Tried "Chinese (simplified") again ==> Error again (though completely fresh download)

Tried "English (UK)" ==> Installed without any problems

Tried "Chinese" again ==> Error

Tried "Dutch" ==> Installed

What the hack do you think I should waste my time with ??? The error has seemingly got nothing to do with WIndows Update whatsoever. I assume, that there is some secret hidden list of allowable languages, which inhibits some languages to be installed whereas others can be installed as they should.

MS has already done so with their crippled Chinese Windows 8 version, which doesn't allow English to be installed (fully on purpose and well documented).

But still with this insight I didn't give up (because my daughter needs Chinese UI experience urgently, since she will be staying a year abroad in mainland China at an age of 15 and needs to at least be able to exercise WIndows UI in Chinese, before being stranded a mere 12000 miles from home).

So I grabbed a completely fresh hard drive, copied over a very old XP installation, then used an WIndows 8 Pro Upgrade DVD in order to install from scratch (XP will be completely ignored and wiped and is only necessary in order to prove upgrade eliligibility). Then the first thing I did was:

Tried install of language pack "Chinese (Simplified)" and guess what: DOES NOT WORK!!!

Then tried "English", "French", "Dutch", "Spanish" ==> All installed without the slightest problem.

So I figured it might be a former problem of Win 8 and completely reinstalled again. This time however, I first ran Windows Update as often as it still found more updates to do and then tried install of the language packs ==> Same problem!!!

I would buy a complete Windows 8 Pro DVD, as long as anybody could please confirm, that Chinese works on any OEM or System builders version of Windows 8 Pro no matter what european language it originally has. (I'd never waste the bucks to buy a full non-SB version, since it is more than 4 times as expensive and it is actually cheaper to buy a new netbook, than buying a full version)

Also same problem. Would really be nice if Microsoft could find the time to make their OS become usable...

if you look at the \windows\windowsupdate.log file, it gives a lot more details about the failure, not exactly human readable with so many errors.  some lines even mentioned update is not allowed to download due to service regulation or download size limitation, which doesn't make any sense.

also \windows\SoftwareDistribution\reportingevents.log said it is 0x80070002 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910336 (BTW, Windows 8 does not have no automatic update service mentioned in the article, i assume it was written for Windows 7)

in my case - 1st computer - Korean Language Pack.  strangest thing is, I installed the Chinese Simplified a few days before and it worked fine.

The first time I install it, it won't even show it is downloading like other languages, just blank in the popup box, so i have to cancel it, reboot, and try again, then it downloaded 75.50MB, but got that error everyone else were talking about. If I tried again, it won't even download and start install immediate and failed eventually. i assume the first time has some glitch and corrupted something.

I go into \windows\SoftwareDistribution\download (where the install CAB is in) and \windows\SoftwareDistribution\eventcache.v2 and moved those files out.  still won't re-download, just failed after install, must be cached/registered in more files/folders.  I gave up and renamed the whole SoftwareDistribution, re-download, still no good like others mentioned.  downside in that route, windows update has to re-download 20 updates, over 750MB and reinstall again ...

and then it happened on another box.  Chinese Simplified installed ok.  then Chinese Traditional got the same problem as Korean as other machine, blank screen 1st time, eventually it downloaded and install, then failed.  try japanese, works fine.

on the third box, chinese simplified, chinese traditional, japanese all installed fine.

on Windows RT box I tried, chinese simplified failed also.
