Had the same problem.

Solution: Control Panel/User Accounts/Reset security policies.

I followed those steps, but unfortunately the little "On resume" box was already unchecked. I must be getting logged off for another reason.

It's actually pretty simple solution. In my case it started happening after I disabled my screen saver and set it to (None). There is one thing usually being overlooked... yes, we disabled the screen saver, but we did not disable logging off after certain amount of time has passed. That option is usually still checked. Weird thing is Microsoft decided to leave it under Screen Saver section, instead of creating its own sub-section, or at least word it better.

Here's easy way how to fix it...

    1. Right click anywhere on the desktop and choose "PERSONALIZE", and then choose "SCREEN SAVER".
    2. If you recently disabled screen saver, and have it set to (None) (inside that Screen Saver drop down menu), you'll notice that "On resume, display logon screen" option is still checked. Time on the left, inside the "Wait:" box is the time for how long it will take before Windows logs you off.
    3. Remove the check mark from the "On resume, display logon screen" and Windows will stop logging you off automatically.

Next time when you want to enable screen saver and have your computer ask you for login password, make sure to put that check mark back again.

    Cheers!
