The most likely cause of your problem is Norton - disabling the SPLDR service which controls teh Software Protection Service.

Please run the following commands, and post the results.

    REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\spldr /S

    REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SPLDR /S

    REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\Legacy_SLSVC

    REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\Legacy_SPPSVC

     They may show something

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)

    1. To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
    2. To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
    3. To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

I suggest you follow Jose's advice and post on the WGA forum. Your issue is more complex than most of can handle. make sure you mention Norton.

I pasted the MGADIAG in my original post. Do you want me to do it again? I am using Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.  I have Norton 360 which does a registry check. The only thing I can think of that I did recently that was major was numerous Windows updates.

    Mike,

Please follow this simple troubleshooting procedure, courtesy of Noel D Paton MCC

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGA Diag tool (use the 32-bit Internet Exporer)

(download and save to desktop - <<http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012>> )

    Once saved, run the tool.

Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.

To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.

    • **in your own thread**, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

A KB has ben created for the Test mode Windows 7 build 7600 error code that appears if an application whose drivers are not digitally signed by Microsoft is installed and still in the test mode. The KB includes an automated Microsoft Fix it 50756 that corrects the issue.

Look at the following KB: <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2509241>

Suggest you download and save the Fix it.

Then close all open programs and browsers prior to running MS Fix it 50756.msi.

Have you by chance run one of the so called registry cleaners?
