Windows 8 Login Screen - Mouse/Keyboard Stop Working

I was on my computer when I got a BSOD on Windows 8 -- It restarted and when it's booting my keyboard lights up, and my mouse. Once I get to the welcome screen both turn off and stop working. I've enabled USB Legacy support in the BIOS and I've also tried every one of my USB ports. I do not have a PS2 port so that is not an option. I've tried doing Shift + F8 during boot to get to the recovery console and no luck there either. This is really frustrating.

    Tried without any success. But now only the first controller is in error and need disabling/re-enabling...

    As suggested in the forum below, I have set the USB Legcy mode to "Disabled" and it seems to have fixed my problem. At least after 5 reboots no problem. Let see with time.

    I also experience this problem after weeks of using Windows 8.   I disabled 'USB Legacy Support' in the BIOS and everything works fine.  Thanks for solution Eric.   [ I will also see with time... ]

    I'm having the same problem here, i'm doing system restore everytime i shutdown my pc, otherwise keyboard and mouse not working.

    For all of you out there, here is what works for me, after looking on the net for hours I was searching for the blackscreen fix and here it is:

    • kill your computer

    if you have any kind of switch on the sockets, where you have plugged it in, just turn it off.

    I know, that this is not a "good" fix, but for me and a friend of mine, it worked.
