I was on my computer when I got a BSOD on Windows 8 -- It restarted and when it's booting my keyboard lights up, and my mouse. Once I get to the welcome screen both turn off and stop working. I've enabled USB Legacy support in the BIOS and I've also tried every one of my USB ports. I do not have a PS2 port so that is not an option. I've tried doing Shift + F8 during boot to get to the recovery console and no luck there either. This is really frustrating.

This is clearly a massive issue with Windows8, i have had it with microsoft...this will be my last windows PC, windows8 is the worst OS and probly programmed by chimps. I would also like to report this issue of mouse keyboard stop working on the metro clock/start up screen. Unable to enter password to access the PC i was forced to access the recovery mode/safe mode via the OS disk(yeah good job that...making safe mode only accessible via a bootable disc you morons). Upon entering into recovery mode none of the repair options worked nor could i do a system restore, the last restore point was a windows update only a half hour before the final shutdown and appearance of this issue. I was forced to do a full OS re-intall, and i am merely waiting for this issue to rear is ugly head again, as microsoft are sitting on their big fat baboon ****'s without clue. This was a brand new pc not 2months old, Intel® Core™ i5-3470 Processor Genuine Windows® 8 64 bit 1GB nVIDIA GeForce™ GT 620 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Memory 1TB SATA III - 6GB/s 7200rpm HDD Great job you **** amateurs

Most of the symptoms seem to indicate a problem with power for USB devices. Coincidentally earlier this week I managed to hang W8 while booting by having a USB Flash drive in an unpowered USB hub (I was trying to save wear and tear on my laptop's USB ports). As soon as I pulled the unpowered USB hub I was able to boot without any problem.
I would say its more of an issue with w8. I have had mouse and keyboard work fine in bios and as soon as it boots to windows I loose them. Never had the issue with Windows 7 and my issue started 3 days after upgrading.
The issue is always the same for me and to solve I remote desktop in to the PC, go into device manager and uninstall the following
Intel(R) 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller
Then right click and do Scan for hardware changes. This reinstalls and my mouse and keyboard comes back straight away.
