Windows 8 Login Screen - Mouse/Keyboard Stop Working

I too have the same problem.  I just purchased the upgrade trying to go away from mac for a chance to have MS redeem themselves.  

I cannot enter my password at the login screen and my onscreen keyboard does not load.  I cannot use that either.  My mouse however does work.  I tried the following to rectify the issue.

1. Run the os in a virtualized environment
2. Re seat all usb connections on the hardware
3. Tried a different keyboard
4. Tried a different mode of connectivity on a different keyboard
5. Lastly i tried the windows trick of the trade for generations - reboot three times ...no go.

Please help or please return my money.

same problem here, first time happen i upgrade from win7 then I done a fresh install problem gone. One day later stop working again.

I had this issue too, reboot did not solve anything (tried 5 times) Nor did changing USB plug.

Repairing from the CD did nothing (it said it could not fix anything) But when it rebooted after having run the CD, the mouse was back.

This is an extremely annoying issue, and I hope you can get this fixed asap.

I just want to clarify and let everyone know how incompetent Microsoft is with their support. So I purchased the web upgrade and installed Windows 8. I opted not to burn a disc because I didn't have any DVD's/USB drive handy. Big mistake. I thought with a company the size of Microsoft they would provide an easy way for me to be able to get a copy of the ISO file. Windows 8 crashed and I was unable to use my keyboard/mouse as mentioned above. After about 15 calls to Microsoft -- Each time repeating my issue and having to walk them through their script (mind you they don't know what they are doing) -- The conclusion they reached was I needed to borrow a friends PC to run the windows setup.exe to get the ISO or reinstall my previous version of Windows. I reinstalled 7 and won't be going back to 8, thanks for your terrible support.

You've reached the right forum for your question. As I understand, the mouse and keyboard stop working on Windows 8 login screen. I would suggest you to follow the troubleshooting steps to check if it helps.

1. Did you make any changes on the computer prior to the issue?
2. What is the make and model of the computer?
3. What is the exact error message on blue screen?

I would suggest you to check with different keyboard and mouse and then check if this fixes the issue

You may perform automatic repair using the disk .

Follow these steps.

a. Boot from the Windows 8 DVD.

b. Click on Repair your computer.

c. Click on Troubleshoot and then select Advanced Options.

d. Select the option Repair.

Note: While performing startup repair on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive when startup repair tries to repair that sector if any data available on that might be lost.

If you does not have a disk, then you may  burn the ISO file.
