Windows 8 Login Screen - Mouse/Keyboard Stop Working

I was on my computer when I got a BSOD on Windows 8 -- It restarted and when it's booting my keyboard lights up, and my mouse. Once I get to the welcome screen both turn off and stop working. I've enabled USB Legacy support in the BIOS and I've also tried every one of my USB ports. I do not have a PS2 port so that is not an option. I've tried doing Shift + F8 during boot to get to the recovery console and no luck there either. This is really frustrating.

                installed win 8 last Jan. 2014 -online download. So have no disc.

    What was the original OS?  Do you have a disk for it?  E.g. if it is W7 you may be able to use its Command only mode to try using its bcdedit on your W8 BCD; e.g. modify it to boot the way I mentioned earlier.

                USed another PC - DELL XPS 750 -another multimedia pc, removed the HDD from the 1st PC, installed here. Same problem --- so now i know it is the win8 OS and not the Kybd and mouse.

    So, you could also create bootable recovery media with it, then do the same modification as above.

    hello, I am having similar issue with my mouse and keybd. using win8:

    So, the PC is Gateway FX 4710, 8 gb memory, quad core multimedia pc, installed win 8 last Jan. 2014 -online download. So have no disc.

    Now, the wired USB DELL keyboard and the wired Logitech USB mouse don't work.

    They work during a small period of Startup. I can access the boot mode and can do changes, but then it stops working.

    Changed the mouse to Microsoft intelli wired USB mouse and the kybd. to another DELL wired USB --- all to no avail.

    USed another PC - DELL XPS 750 -another multimedia pc, removed the HDD from the 1st PC, installed here. Same problem --- so now i know it is the win8 OS and not the Kybd and mouse.

    Big problem: what do i do to get in the system to uninstall USB drivers and re-install????? pls. please advice. I shall truly be grateful. best - sim S.

    My computer went on BSOD when it automaticly upgraded to windows 8.1.

    None of the keys on my laptop are working.

    I just bought this Samsung Ativ 2 months ago.

    I had to do a system restore.

    1. Hold "window + C" during a hard restart
    2. "window + C" again and it will bring up the start menu
    3. search "restore" under settings (not under apps)
    4. use the arrow keys (and or tab) to select the restore setting most appropriate for you

    I have the same problem with New computer with windows 8.....  keyboard stops working... sometimes when I shut down and restart, it fixes itself.  Thought it might be the laptop, but I see here it's probably a win 8 issue....   errrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
