Windows 8 Login Screen - Mouse/Keyboard Stop Working

I was on my computer when I got a BSOD on Windows 8 -- It restarted and when it's booting my keyboard lights up, and my mouse. Once I get to the welcome screen both turn off and stop working. I've enabled USB Legacy support in the BIOS and I've also tried every one of my USB ports. I do not have a PS2 port so that is not an option. I've tried doing Shift + F8 during boot to get to the recovery console and no luck there either. This is really frustrating.

    The only known permanent solution is to create a scheduled task that reboot the 2 USB controllers that freeze at windows startup uscing DevCon.exe.

    This way i solved (and deactivating USB Legacy Support didn't work for me)

    I also experience this problem after weeks of using Windows 8.   I disabled 'USB Legacy Support' in the BIOS and everything works fine.  Thanks for solution Eric.   [ I will also see with time... ]

    Just and update.  It is now over two months and the issue has not reoccurred.

    I occasionally have the same problem - no k/b or mouse on first Win8 screen. For me the solution is to close down the PC by holding in the on/off switch on the system unit until the PC is fully off, then reboot.

    Does this 'solution' suggest to anyone what the cause might be, and thus a more permanent solution?

    Hi,

    I just had this exact same problem, restarted my PC and no keyboard & mouse in windows 8 (still working in BIOS), so I was unable to get passed the lock screen. After searching for solutions on another site with nothing working, here's what I did.

    Someone mentioned that disabling Legacy USB helped for them, so I disabled it in the BIOS settings and restarted, with no luck. So then i went into the BIOS menu again and enabled Legacy USB (I didnt want to forget what changes I'd made). One more reset, and hey presto, they work again!

    So in a nutshell, i disabled Legacy, restart to lock screen, restart, enabled legacy, restart to lock screen - FIXED!
