SD memory Card Reader is not working on Windows 8

* Original Title: Windows 8 SD memory Card Reader Driver

I installed Windows 8 on a new Samsung Laptop (NP350V5C-A02UK) and the SD card reader is not working. Called Samsung who advised no driver for Windows 8 available yet. Also was told that Microsoft would have a generic driver that could solve this problem, but when I called support I was told no such thing is available. Has anyon eelse experienced this issue, and if so how did you resolve it? Thanks

Thank you for the post. I am sorry to hear that the SD memory Card Reader is not working on Windows 8.

I can imagine the inconvenience you have experienced. I will definitely help you with this.

1.      What exactly happens while you try to connect the device?

2.      Are you getting any error code or error message? If yes, what is the complete error message?

Let’s follow the methods provided below and check if it helps.

Method 1: Run the Hardware troubleshooter and check.

Follow the steps to run the troubleshooter:

a. Press Windows key + C on your keyboard to show the Charms bar.

b. Type Troubleshooting and click Troubleshooting under Settings.

c. Now type Hardware Troubleshooter in the search option.

d. Click on Hardware troubleshooter to run the troubleshooter.

Method 2: Install latest drivers for the USB device and check.

Download the Windows 7 drivers from the Manufacturer’s website and install them in compatibility mode.

a.       Right click on the driver setup file and select “Properties”.

b.      Select “Compatibility” Tab.

c.       Make a check mark next to Run this program in “Compatibility mode” and select previous version of Windows supported by the software, from the drop down list.

d.      Then click on “Apply” and “Ok” option.

e.       Then install the driver.

f.       Then restart your computer and check how it works.

Method 3: Install optional updates and check.

a. At the Start screen, type Windows Update.

b. Click or tap Settings on the right side of the screen, and then select Install optional updates from the left results.

c. When the Windows Update control panel opens, click on “Check for Updates” on the top left corner to receive a fresh list of updates.

    I've tried everything to get my card reader to work again. I can put my sd card into a universal card reader and insert it into the usb port and it will work that way. Weird.

    If this is on a laptop, there are only two suggestions I can make.

    1. Go into Device Manager and find the card reader.  Uninstall it from there (not just disable).  Then reboot and it should be found and re-installed. 
    2. If that doesn't work, try finding an update to the BIOS and make sure you have the latest BIOS.  Most computer manufacturers like Dell have easy BIOS update applications.

    If it is a desktop, try 1 & 2 above.  If they don't work, you may have to find a new internal card reader.  Most if not all currently available work with all Windows versions up through 8.1.  Internal card readers use the motherboard usb header.  As a last resort, get a new card reader and also purchase a PCI USB card that has internal as well as external connections.  This will add a few more USB connections on the back as well as an internal one for the reader.

    So, here is another update to explain all of my previous posts/update.  The card reader stopped again.  I rebooted, but it still was not working.  One thing common to all of my previous "fixes" was that I powered down the computer first (cold shut down).  So this time I turned the computer off, unplugged the power cord, pressed the power button to discharge capacitors, plugged it back in and powered it up.  The card reader is not working.  So this action actually rebooted the card reader (usb powered which stays on during a hot reboot).

    I have the same kind of problem. The computer makes the sound that a memory stick is inserted, however it appears nowhere in the screen or in the folders. 

    I have a Windows 8 on my Samsung notebook, but for some reason it does not recognise my SDcard either.

    And when I want to install the Chipset as seen below, I got the question if I want to replace the 9.4.0.1027 version with the 9.30.1020 version.

     Any idea where I can find it?
