SD memory Card Reader is not working on Windows 8

* Original Title: Windows 8 SD memory Card Reader Driver

I installed Windows 8 on a new Samsung Laptop (NP350V5C-A02UK) and the SD card reader is not working. Called Samsung who advised no driver for Windows 8 available yet. Also was told that Microsoft would have a generic driver that could solve this problem, but when I called support I was told no such thing is available. Has anyon eelse experienced this issue, and if so how did you resolve it? Thanks

1. What exactly happens while you try to connect the device?

2. Are you getting any error code or error message? If yes, what is the complete error message?

Let’s follow the methods provided below and check if it helps.

Method 1: Run the Hardware troubleshooter and check.

Follow the steps to run the troubleshooter:

a. Press Windows key + C on your keyboard to show the Charms bar.

b. Type Troubleshooting and click Troubleshooting under Settings.

c. Now type Hardware Troubleshooter in the search option.

d. Click on Hardware troubleshooter to run the troubleshooter.

Method 2: Install latest drivers for the USB device and check.

Download the Windows 7 drivers from the Manufacturer’s website and install them in compatibility mode.

a. Right click on the driver setup file and select “Properties”.

b. Select “Compatibility” Tab.

c. Make a check mark next to Run this program in “Compatibility mode” and select previous version of Windows supported by the software, from the drop down list.

d. Then click on “Apply” and “Ok” option.

e. Then install the driver.

f. Then restart your computer and check how it works.

Method 3: Install optional updates and check.

a. At the Start screen, type Windows Update.

b. Click or tap Settings on the right side of the screen, and then select Install optional updates from the left results.

c. When the Windows Update control panel opens, click on “Check for Updates” on the top left corner to receive a fresh list of updates.

Please help I am very frustrated. My SD Card reader will only work under the following situation. I have tried all other suggested methods and none work.

This works - but it's annoying to keep having to do it:
1. I insert an SD card. No drive letter appears, no autoplay comes up.
2. I open Device Manager, Navigate to the Generic SD/MMC USB Device
3. Right-Click, Update Driver Software, Search Automatically...
At this point it states that the best driver is already installed, but at the same time - the autoplay suddenly comes up (it begins importing) and at the same time the Drive letter appears in my computer. This is fine, but then the next time I insert the card nothing happens.

I have also tried uninstalling the Driver for the SD/MMC USB Device, then re-starting windows. When windows comes back up, the SD card automatically re-installs and works once, but then it does not work after that.

Please help!

have a problem with a hp stock multi card reader my machine picks it up as a new device being connected but about a 1/4 way through driver installation i get a device descriptor error with no change no matter what i do and ive done everything i can think of. worst part is i recently changed out boards and on previous board i had same problem but was able to download some driver from cnet for no specific brand just said for multi card readers but it worked like a champ. now i have tried everything and every driver i could find. previous system was gigabyte board amd phenom x4 x64 windows 8.1 pro. current system is same except board is a hp pull from a pavillon p6510y asus made board. and ironically enough the card reader was a pull out of same machine the board came from any help would be super appreciated thanks in advance

I have a diffrent problem on Win 8.1 Pro, the SD card reader is detecting the card first time I insert it. Then I am ejecting the card from the menu and removing the card from the slot, when I want to reinsert it or put another card into the reader, Windows 8 do not sees it. I have to restart my computer to have one insert/browse the card combo and then to insert another card after removing I have to reboot again. I went from Vista to 8.0 and Vista did not have an issue with the slot. I reinstalled the driver for the slot but it did not solve the issue
