* Original Title: Windows 8 SD memory Card Reader Driver

I installed Windows 8 on a new Samsung Laptop (NP350V5C-A02UK) and the SD card reader is not working. Called Samsung who advised no driver for Windows 8 available yet. Also was told that Microsoft would have a generic driver that could solve this problem, but when I called support I was told no such thing is available. Has anyon eelse experienced this issue, and if so how did you resolve it? Thanks

Hi Jakub Socha,

Thank you for the post. I am sorry to hear that the SD memory Card Reader is not working on Windows 8.

I can imagine the inconvenience you have experienced. I will definitely help you with this.

1.      What exactly happens while you try to connect the device?

2.      Are you getting any error code or error message? If yes, what is the complete error message?

Let’s follow the methods provided below and check if it helps.

Method 1: Run the Hardware troubleshooter and check.

Follow the steps to run the troubleshooter:

a. Press Windows key + C on your keyboard to show the Charms bar.

b. Type Troubleshooting and click Troubleshooting under Settings.

c. Now type Hardware Troubleshooter in the search option.

d. Click on Hardware troubleshooter to run the troubleshooter.

Method 2: Install latest drivers for the USB device and check.

Download the Windows 7 drivers from the Manufacturer’s website and install them in compatibility mode.

a.       Right click on the driver setup file and select “Properties”.

b.      Select “Compatibility” Tab.

c.       Make a check mark next to Run this program in “Compatibility mode” and select previous version of Windows supported by the software, from the drop down list.

d.      Then click on “Apply” and “Ok” option.

e.       Then install the driver.

f.       Then restart your computer and check how it works.

Method 3: Install optional updates and check.

a. At the Start screen, type Windows Update.

b. Click or tap Settings on the right side of the screen, and then select Install optional updates from the left results.

c. When the Windows Update control panel opens, click on “Check for Updates” on the top left corner to receive a fresh list of updates.

Hope it helps. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to let us know. We will be glad to help you further.

Hi guys, I had a similar problem with my Compaq laptop. After a Windows 8 upgrade my SD card reader would not recognise my SD card at all and didn't show up in Explorer. To solve this, I did the following:

    1. Open up device manager - right click in the very bottom left corner in desktop mode and choose device manager from the menu.
    2. Expand the 'Disk drives' group.
    3. Insert the SD Card - you should see the SD card appear in the Disk drives group, maybe after a few seconds.
    4. Right click the SD card and choose 'Uninstall'.
    5. After it has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for hardware changes' icon (far right in the icon bar). The computer should detect the SD card again.
    6. Restart the computer.

For me, after restarting, the SD card was working fine. I hope this helps.
