* Original Title: Windows 8 SD memory Card Reader Driver

I installed Windows 8 on a new Samsung Laptop (NP350V5C-A02UK) and the SD card reader is not working. Called Samsung who advised no driver for Windows 8 available yet. Also was told that Microsoft would have a generic driver that could solve this problem, but when I called support I was told no such thing is available. Has anyon eelse experienced this issue, and if so how did you resolve it? Thanks

The problem I am having of losing my SD card reader is most probably caused by the latest Microsoft update that corrected the problem of my computer not going to sleep automatically that started with the 8.1 update in 2013.

I can get my machine to recognize a SD card per some of the solutions listed above that I tried earlier, but as soon as my machine goes into a sleep mode and brought out of the sleep mode the SD reader will not work.  I have tried this six times and every time I put my computer into sleep mode and bring it out, the reader doesn't work. I then use the solution that  "Smytheagain" on March 9, 2013 suggested to get my reader to recognize the SD card again.

I hope Microsoft can come up with a fix or update to solve this problem.

The solution listed by "Smytheagain" on March 9, 2013 worked for approx. 2-3 hrs. than back to not recognizing the SD card.  This problem only started within the last few weeks. The SD card reader worked on 3-23-14, the last time I used it until yesterday.  Possibly after a recent Microsoft automatic update.  I updated with 8.1 as soon as it came out and did not experience this problem until now.

The only problem I had with 8.1 was the computer stopped going to sleep automatically.  Since this recent auto. update the computer goes to sleep, (most of the time), automatically but now another problem.  Are they related?

An update on performing "solution #3".  It worked for two hours then back to not recognizing the SD card.  I have tried the solution listed by "Smytheagain" on March 9, 2013.  That is working but who knows for how long.  Will post update if that solution fails.
