My windows 8 is randomly logging off on its own, bug?

Well that's a relief. It seems that a few (different) issues have been reported in this thread, so it may be more than one, separate issue. But I at least, have explicitly described my one.

I have installed Windows 7 Explorer for Windows 8 (Ex7forW8), and so far - although it is VERY early days - I am reporting a (positive) marked difference with the win7 explorer.exe - no more explorer restrictions in context menus or file opening, obviously no crashes (though I've only ever had about 4 or 5 crashes over many months of heavy usage, so this statistically means nothing at this early stage, it's only been a week), and it's as if I can run more programs now. If I'm getting heavy on the ram, it just does the GOOD OLD little freezes and micro-hangs that I'd much rather experience. So far, so good. Ex7forW8 is great too, easy install and one-click setup, and no 'issues' that I've noticed so far. Chrome is being a bit weird though, a new behaviour is that I simply cannot open (pretty much), new tabs, it just hangs (not program-can't-move-mouse-wise, but as if it's an internet problem) as a blank white page and the loading circle forever and there's nothing you can do but use another browser tbh.

And so this makes me think that my chrome problem may be a chrome one, something they changed with recent updates in the beta channel. BUT it still is obivously windows explorer related, because if it's no longer crashing on me (I still have the same amount of tabs open), that's a big change.

It may just be I need to restart it once more and it's some weird other one-time anomoly.....I don't close my browser very often, because, well, why?...

This will all be in continual testing indefinitely, so I will report if anything interesting happens.

Remarkable that I have to pull up the previous OS version's explorer to fix this huge issue in the OS.

Well coincidence or not but since I removed start8 start menu I did not have the error anymore since 2 weeks or something. Anyone else using a 3rd party start menu ?

You are not alone, this is certainly a bug and I can not get along with this one.  I think it is related to VGA driver, because I faced VGA driver crash frequently on win 8 and the same thing happens before random log off.

It did it again, it happened, I finally got to a point where I was about 90% memory full in my PC (16GB of ram mind you), it did the windows 8 'intelligently manage memory cloggage by just closing all your apps off and restarting the computer without asking, not caring about what complicated windows and apps you were working on or with unsaved data in', thing.

does ANYONE know how one could turn off some policy management settings in windows 8 to STOP this awful behaviour????????

I NEVER. NEVER, thought I'd be wishing for windows crash errors in my life. but there you go. microsoft provided something even worse!!!!!

I literally saw it happen in front of my eyes again - it starts, with certain things not being able to be done in windows explorer - you right click on files, and only a very limited version of the context menu pops up. or eventually, nothing at all. Also, it doesn't even let you open files when it's getting bad, you can open it from programs like wordpad or whatever, but not via double clicking on that same file in a windows explorer window (like desktop, e.g....). And then, when it 'happens' - the screen suddenly goes black, has some spasmodic flickers of snippets of programs running before slowing down like a dying animal that's being eaten by a predator, then boom, reset metro start screen.

MICROSOFT, WHY DON'T YOU JUST LET US MANAGE IT OURSELVES LIKE WE USED TO, I WAS FINE WHEN IT JUST SLOWED THINGS DOWN AND I MANUALLY MANAGED MY MEMORY USAGE MYSELF, INSTEAD OF YOU DUMBING IT DOWN A LA NON-SERIOUS TABLET USAGE AND DECIDING TO MAKE THINGS PRETTY AND CLEAN AND 'RESTARTY' FOR ME.

Does anyone else get this problem if using windows 8 heavily?

ACTUALLY.....you know what I'm thinking, you know what I just realised: if I can still open and operate files from OTHER programs, maybe it's just the windows 8 explorer.exe that's the problem? I've been meaning to install the windows 7 explorer for windows 8 for a long time now, to finally get rid of the pesky metro start screen and get my beautiful superior win7 start menu back, maybe that will fix THIS issue too! since it's all windows explorer related, isn't it! the main app running the desktop/managing the start screen etc! wow.....

Maybe I'm on to something.

I just started to experience this as of yesterday.  Not sure it's due to updates, because I disabled automatic updates. However, I do believe that a trojan horse that was blocked could have started it??
