My windows 8 is randomly logging off on its own, bug?

This is really frustrating. It's happened twice now, in the past 24 hours. I'm just doing my work, and suddenly the screen goes black for 2 seconds, flashing black, then goes to the 'metro' screen saver screen, where you start when you first boot the computer on. so it appears that it is logging off. I log back on, and a FEW of my open programs (skype, dropbox, few others) are still there, but most of my programs (wordpad, browser) simply terminated and I have to start them again, restore chrome session, lose work that I didn't save in WordPad, ETC.

Windows 8 Pro here.

Please help, it would be good to get to the bottom of this. 99% sure it's no virus, I'm careful and an experienced computer user and have MSE monitoring things so it can't be a virus.

    Not a chance. My computer is extremely secure and just in case I of course did all that way before I ever came here.

    Almost a year ago with a brand new PC did I have the same problem. I followed every suggestion that was made on this site with no change. The best advice I got was to go back to Windows 7. I did that and never had another problem. There is some problem with Windows 8 that logs people off on a random basis for whatever reason but it is a quirk of Windows 8 that MS needs to figure out.

    Three tines today alone. I have done everything they suggest. Whille I am a tab power user it was ever thus and my computer can certainly handle that.

    When it decides it will shut down to install updates even though when we could control that I had notify me and let me choose that is aggravating enough but this is insane especially since the worst thing 8,1 brought is the decision I have to log in with my MS account each time. I live alone. My computer is always secured. I have never pw protected my computer as I have to access it quickly for work (which is pw protected)

    Please let us control both our computers and how much we want out internet identity integrated again. I do not like the one account all of this as I do work that requires some degree of protection of exactly that. (Nothing criminal just there are reasons to not want 80 percent of what I do on my web known to MS)
