Hello,
When I try to launch Windows Movie Maker, I get “Error code: c945000e Sorry, Movie Maker can't start …” What can I do to fix this?

An update to Movie Maker 2012 was just released today. It lowers the hardware requirements back to DirectX 9, so you might see if you can run it. There are more details in the pinned post. The version number is 16.4.3504.0912. The details are also at the beginning of this (now very long) post.
So if you had DirectX 9 hardware that worked for WLMM 2011, give Movie Maker 2012 a go again.

· Windows Live Movie Maker 2011
· Windows Movie Maker 2012
Here's what's happening:
1)
Movie Maker makes heavy use of video and graphics acceleration capabilities provided by a computer's video card to decode and encode video files and render effects, transitions and text. Sometimes video card drivers (the software that allows Windows and Movie Maker to interact with the video card) have issues that prevent Movie Maker from working correctly.
The following video cards and corresponding driver versions below have been identified as having issues that prevent Movie Maker 2011 and Movie Maker 2012 from working correctly. Movie Maker will not start with the following video cards and driver combinations.
To resolve the issue, install the latest video card driver version.

If you are running on DirectX 9 hardware, please ensure that you have installed the Windows Update for DirectX 9 support available at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2741355, and that you are running the latest version of Windows Movie Maker 2012.
To verify that you have the latest version of Windows Movie Maker 2012, please do the following:
1. In Movie Maker, press Alt + F on your keyboard to open the File menu
2. Select About Movie Maker.
3. Verify that the version number is 16.4.3505.0912.

I have tried to upgrade the driver before via the Intel site and it was a disaster. It did not allow Movie maker to work and gave me a very poor video and far fewer adjustments. I reverted to the previous version which I have now. I tried again today and Intel responded they could do nothing as it is a custom display driver. HP apparently has a customized driver and I have posted the problem on their graphics forum to see if I can get some help. So far, a dozen viewers but no responders and no suggestions. Thanks. The thing that is troubling is that it worked for a while before it decided not to work.

Before you get all huffy, consider this is an old thread, and a piece of Software many dont use anymore, and maybe none of those dozen views knows how to help. I read and had nothing positive to contribute, and I'm on vacation, so i didnt respond. Im just another user... Just like you. Microsoft doesnt usually post here themselves. Even the mvps are mostly volunteer...
If you want a suggestion, read the 16 pages of responses and look for similar things you could try. I cannot remember my own problem with this, but i believe it included the video driver.
Also, Many posts to these forums get 0 responses... ever... So dont take it personally.
Sounds like you are doing what i would do... Eventually i purchased adobe premere elements-it worked fine, and i didnt need to mess with these problems..
Not sure how you thought I was huffy but my eyes started crossing when I was reading the other 16 pages of trouble but I will get back to it. I was merely responding to the gentlemen that tried to help earlier (Considerate_guy) to let him know what I found with the driver update he suggested as a first step. Adobe Premiere Elements is something I would dearly like to have work also but it gives me the same "no go" video. I have Adobe Premiere Elements 12. I actually tried to update my drivers earlier to get that to work when I decided after it failed to use Movie Maker 11. That was many months ago when I had no pressing need to make some movies. MM 11 was already on my laptop but it was short of my expectations so I loaded MM 12 and it worked for two presentations and then abruptly quit. I might just roll back to MM 11 as an expedient. I take very little personally and I do not wait for responses before trying other things. Thanks for the encouragement.
