Let's get a little wayalong to the solution.

There is a configuration error with your BITS service.

Please COPY all the lines between the ++++++++ (but not the ++) and paste into a Notepad window.

Save the file as BITS.REG to your desktop.

Once saved, close Notepad.

right-click on the BITS.REG file you just saved, and select Merge from the options list.

You'll get a couple of warnings - accept them.

You should get a 'Success' message.

Reboot

now open an Elevated Command Prompt Window and COPY AND PASTE the following commands

NET START BITS

SC QC BITS

SC QUERYEX BITS

post the results.

hi, i noticed the link you sent to re install BITS was for windows XP ?    also when you sent me the link to reset windows update i was already on the case and after restarting my comp. i managed to download the updates BUT  when clicking on windows update now it behaves very strangely... i cannot minimise the box, cannot make the page smaller, nor can i drag it... and once i have clicked on windows update from the start button it takes along time to respond. a blank screen for minutes ? i even have to close the page with task manager ?
