cannot use windows update on windows 7. 32 bit. keep getting code error:80246008 ? cannot detect a system update readiness tool on my computer. ive ran SFS/SCANNOW and its come up with nothing ? tried downloading the system update readiness tool in standalone and i get an update hotfix for windows hotfix KB947821, whick goes to initialising installation but does not install ? any suggestions please.... would be very much appreciated.... cheers

funnily enough , windows defender is one of the things that disappeared during that 2 week period ? i tried to reinstall it a while ago but couldnt, but managed to find pc security essentials instead and now i have that running ....i shall run the SFC/SCANNOW now...

You should perhaps run some other offline Anti-Virus scanners - Windows Defender Offline is pretty good. Also, run SFC /SCANNOW (from an Elevated Command Prompt) and see whether it reports errors or not.

all these problems coincided with a net-worm that was detected on my usb memory stick and a trojan/virus HEUR .Trojan WIN32 during the last 2 weeks of august. my kaspersky detected and deleted them though. kaspersky did send me a link for the kidokiller to destroy the net worm which worked.... but i think maybe the windows update files and a few other important ones where wiped away ... my system is clean now though .

No problem - I am concerned about the apparent instability of the system, though.

Once saved, close Notepad.

right-click on the BITS.REG file you just saved, and select Merge from the options list.

You'll get a couple of warnings - accept them.

You should get a 'Success' message.

Reboot

now open an Elevated Command Prompt Window and COPY AND PASTE the following commands
