Windows Update issue, getting code error: 80246008

cannot use windows update on windows 7. 32 bit. keep getting code error:80246008 ? cannot detect a system update readiness tool on my computer. ive ran SFS/SCANNOW  and its come up with nothing ? tried downloading the system update readiness tool in standalone and i get an update hotfix for windows hotfix KB947821, whick goes to initialising installation but does not install ? any suggestions please.... would be very much appreciated.... cheers

There is a configuration error with your BITS service.

Please COPY all the lines between the ++++++++ (but not the ++) and paste into a Notepad window.

Save the file as BITS.REG to your desktop.

Once saved, close Notepad.

right-click on the BITS.REG file you just saved, and select Merge from the options list.

You'll get a couple of warnings - accept them.

You should get a 'Success' message.

Reboot

now open an Elevated Command Prompt Window and COPY AND PASTE the following commands

NET START BITS

SC QC BITS

SC QUERYEX BITS

post the results.

    i,m a little confused about this repair reinstall, even after reading the tutorial...  i need the windows 7 sp1 iso file on disc to start... my original windows 7 vista upgrade disc i bought has not got the sp1 on it....now, can i start up this iso disc i created the other day in normal mode (pausing kaspersky first)  and continue on ?

    With a repair install, you don't need to be able to boot from the disk - you MUST start the repair from within a working Windows installation (which is why MS call it an 'In-place Upgrade')

    The theory is that it won't affect installed programs, or data - but external backups are highly recommended!

    Please read the tutorial and make sure that you understand all of it - ask questions either in SevenForums, or here, if you have any - and then follow them closely.

    They are possibly the best set of instructions I have seen.

    i really have no worries about doing a reinstall as long as none of my photos or music that i have stored on my (F) drive are affected !  one problem i am having though is booting to cd ?   i downloaded and burnt a cd with the windows defender offline  on another computer earlier on, went into BIOS. changed boot priority sequence so cd-rom was first on the list, saved and turned off ... when i turn computer back on the disc is not kicking in ??    this is what i need to fix in order to reinstall with the windows 7 sp1 iso  disc i made the other day ...
