Let's get a little wayalong to the solution.

There is a configuration error with your BITS service.

Please COPY all the lines between the ++++++++ (but not the ++) and paste into a Notepad window.

Save the file as BITS.REG to your desktop.

Once saved, close Notepad.

right-click on the BITS.REG file you just saved, and select Merge from the options list.

You'll get a couple of warnings - accept them.

You should get a 'Success' message.

Reboot

now open an Elevated Command Prompt Window and COPY AND PASTE the following commands

NET START BITS

SC QC BITS

SC QUERYEX BITS

post the results.

hi there, i dont know what has happened but after countless attempts at getting the windows 7 sp1 iso disc that i burnt to work and switching the comp. on and off many times, i got to the point where i could not get safe mode at all. i ended up with this black screen where i had only 2 options system startup repair and start windows normally.  late last night i seemed to have gained function of c drive again, in normal mode ???  couldnt believe it ....   did not want to turn off so left in sleep mode all night. it seems to have gone to a system restore as when it returned to normal mode last night , tune up utilities 2012 was back on it , which gerry told me to delete with revo uninstaller a day or 2 ago.... i have now deleted this from my system.    everything seems to be ok, except that i cannot still get windows updates ???
