Windows Live Mail (WLM) - error: server rejects login to gmail account

I now have the same problem, after  normal ops for some time the server will not accept my login.

I have wrestled with it, but no fix. I am using Yahoo with no problems.

yes,  that may be a clue. I have 1300 now in my inbox. Its hard to delete on WLM. It has been on and off for last few hours, but is working now. Do you think the problem is gmail or WLM. Maybe i will clean out my inbox on the gmail site. Or maybe it will be ok for a while now. Very strange. Thanks for your reply, cheers, Brent.

Exact same as me. Started today, after more than a year of using Gmail via WLMail, and also Bingbar wont update or login, also, my android tablet is doing it too, via the stock email client. All happened this morning. But I can still get in through IE browser. Did you ever find a solution? Or what is going on. Thanks, Brent.

No, I haven't. I am still using POP and SMTP. It works fine, but this doesn't support the two way syncing so I can't tell from the web interface which messages have been read. Also, if I move one to a folder in WLM, it doesn't move in Gmail.

I need to go back to IMAP. Then, it's just a matter of being patient with the connection errors. At least, then, everything will sync and I can move them between folders. I'll probably do that tomorrow so it can work all weekend syncing.

BTW, do you have large amounts of mail in your inbox? I do as I don't spend time to delete stuff. I wonder if it is timing out because there is so many messages to sift through...

Well, thanks a lot. That deleted all my email and those settings do not log into gmail. Did you just make that up?

 

The problem I was having, was that although I could connect and download email, at random times, I would incessantly get the message  "The server has rejected your login. Please verify that your user name and password are correct".

 

If I would wait a few seconds then click ok to log in again, it will start getting the mail, but usually gets the error after a few messages or the next time it checks mail. Some days, it works fine. Other days, It won't hardly work at all.

Based on the detailed issue description that you' have provided,you're receiving the error due to the following possibilities:

- A temporary problem occured on the server

• Internet connectivity issue.

I don't get any such errors with POP, only when I set it up for IMAP. However, I prefer IMAP because POP doesn't support the two way syncing that IMAP does. This means that messages I read or move on my phone or from home don't show as read or moved to folders when I download them in Windows Live at work.
