Windows 8 - Media Center DisplayPort HDCP support nonexistent

This feedback was provided under Windows 7, however action has not been taken to correct this issue for Windows 8 either.

ERROR:

Display driver error – the video playback device does not support playback of protected content.

ISSUE:

Media Center with a CableCard tuner doesn't work at all on DisplayPort, because DisplayPort is not detected as HDCP compliant by Media Center. CableLabs Certifited DisplayPort as HDCP compliant but Media Center still hasn't been updated and it still thinks that it's not compliant.

REQUEST:

Requesting Microsoft to produce a patch so that DisplayPort is detected as HDCP compliant by Media Center.

    I have the W10 Tech Preview. they don't have Media Center in there yet. Once they do, I'll (1) try it out and (2) send feedback if necesary

    I've heard rumors it won't be included.  There will be a separate WMC edition if it comes to Windows 10 at all.

    I've heard rumors it won't be included.  There will be a separate WMC edition if it comes to Windows 10 at all.

    You can make an all-in-one win10 install cd and it has a version with wmc.  

    Others have already enabled wmc from the store, but I think you need the pro version installed, which means you need to make the AIO install cd.  

    The one at Microsoft is the basic edition.  

    From what I've been hearing, most of the preview is win8.1 still.  So I'm sure they'll need to modify media center for win10 still.  Hopefully to allow HDCP support for media center finally.

    I need it badly as I'm ordering the Asus RoG monitor that has G-Sync and it only works with display port.  There are no other plugs at all.  Just one single ****.

    Anyone know where to report this HDCP for WMC request?  Maybe we can start a campaign early so it gets included.  

    Or if anyone has WMC already installed and verify if it's currently implemented.

    You can use the add features in Control Panel to add it (along with your key).  It will then deactivate windows.  But at least you can leave feedback.

    I'm having this same issue on a Dell Inspiron 3148 laptop that I just purchased to be used as a way for me to watch TV around the house. Suffice it to say, very disappointed that Microsoft hasn't fixed this problem after so many years.

    I am not feeling optimistic about the chances WMC will be in W10, I remember reading that the entire WMC development staff was disbanded a few years ago, and the only thing different in W8 compared to W7 was that they added a CC on-screen button when watching programming in WMC. I don't think Microsoft is devoting any resources to this anymore, and I can't blame them considering how the cable companies have fought tooth and nail to make it in any way easy to have TV on your computer.

    However, I DO hope that Microsoft at least fixes this one problem, since it is widespread among the dedicated userbase that WMC still has. Not holding my breath though.

    It's really sad that the cable companies and content providers have made it so much harder for people to record and view the content they are paying for than it is for them to just get content illegally and free.
