This feedback was provided under Windows 7, however action has not been taken to correct this issue for Windows 8 either.
ERROR:
Display driver error – the video playback device does not support playback of protected content.
ISSUE:
Media Center with a CableCard tuner doesn't work at all on DisplayPort, because DisplayPort is not detected as HDCP compliant by Media Center. CableLabs Certifited DisplayPort as HDCP compliant but Media Center still hasn't been updated and it still thinks that it's not compliant.
REQUEST:
Requesting Microsoft to produce a patch so that DisplayPort is detected as HDCP compliant by Media Center.

It seems impossible to find any new laptop/tablet that complies with WMC's implementation of HDCP. If this isn't fixed soon, only desktops and external monitors will be able to view WMC TV.
I have this same issue with my desktop machine. Yet another reason microsoft is losing sales.
Luckily my monitor has multi-ports so my DVI-D is working fine.
also, the software from HDHomeRun plays just fine with display port, it's just it has no media center features.
Hopefully they fix media center soon.
So M$ has still refused to fix this issue. I don't know who's running the show, but it's clear they're a bunch of fools. They could've had the best HTPC platform (to kill apple tv or roku) with a little effort, but instead they're letting it die. So for those of you who want to watch DRM'd cablecard HDTV on a new laptop with displayport instead of lvds the only solution is to buy Power DVD and use its dtcp-ip with a home run prime. Of course this is live TV only but it's better than nothing. You could also rig up a slingbox to, for example, an xbox 360 extender to view on any device. That's about all the ideas I have.
I solved my problem. My cable service got so bad with high compression and weak signal that I gave up. I traded my cable card tuners for the hardware compression h.264 SD models. I now record from my local air channels and stream over my htpc. I have had the best experience with this since I first started with Vista MC. The best part is there is no encryption to deal with and I can record from my HTPC to a shared drive and watch on every tablet and computer in the house. I think I would have changed even if MS had fixed HDCP on the Display port hardware. My picture is so much better and the streaming to other devices is seamless. I like that Netflix integrates with MC. I just wish more internet TV options would integrate. I tried the TUNER FREE TV app but it kept crashing.
Microsoft is so lame, they never fix anything, they just keep making things worse
Just bought a new Dell XPS12 and upgraded to Win 8.1 with WMC. Same issue as above. Dell refuses to address issue as they feel it is a Microsoft driver issue. When is Microsoft going to address the Displayport HDCP compatibility problems????
Don't count on it as it may never happen. I've since moved from a Cablecard tuner to the Hauppauge HD-PVR which records from the cable box via the component connectors. I can view the material on any device I wish. I was not able to distinguish any loss of video/sound quality.
There are of course many limitations with this approach, but from a practical standpoint I'm much happier after the switch.
It's one of those cases where it's so much more difficult to be compliant with their rules that you're better off circumventing the entire thing. Overall a ridiculous situation.
