Windows 8 - Media Center DisplayPort HDCP support nonexistent

This feedback was provided under Windows 7, however action has not been taken to correct this issue for Windows 8 either.

ERROR:

Display driver error – the video playback device does not support playback of protected content.

ISSUE:

Media Center with a CableCard tuner doesn't work at all on DisplayPort, because DisplayPort is not detected as HDCP compliant by Media Center. CableLabs Certifited DisplayPort as HDCP compliant but Media Center still hasn't been updated and it still thinks that it's not compliant.

REQUEST:

Requesting Microsoft to produce a patch so that DisplayPort is detected as HDCP compliant by Media Center.

    Nah, I already have one screen and it should work on that one.  After all, dropping a grand or more on a Surface Pro, one would think it should work as intended.  How are the purchasers/end users of these devices supposed to determine the internal display connection technology?  We cannot unless it's included in the specifications.  In this case, MS used display port which does not support HDCP under Windows 8 (all versions).  If they had used the HDMI as the internal display connection technology, it would work as intended.

    Absolutely. The fact that WMC doesn't work on a laptop's built in display is not only irritating, it makes a mockery of DHCPs intended purpose... I can send the signal to an external display but I can't send it to the internal display for fear of copyright infringement? What the...?

    Rant: DHCP is possibly the worst invention of all when it comes to this ridiculous idea of making it as hard as possible to stop honest customers from enjoying the content they pay for in order to thwart a miniscule number of pirates. It's actually EASIER for me to display content I haven't paid for than content I DO pay for. That makes no sense.

    On the w8.1 go to devices>project>and select  second screen only. This turns off your laptop screen and makes the monitor the primary (only) screen and protected content is now displayable thru the mini display port..

    Latest PlayReady 1.3.10 has not fixed WMC and Cable Card HDCP error "Display Driver Error" via display port.  This issue is still open.  Perhaps in W10 they will fix this?  I wouldn't count on it.

    I just nodiced that my Media Center stoped saying  "HDCP Support Required" and now says "Display Driver Error, so I looked at Nvidia Control Panel and I saw this.

     

    I think the repeater it's refering to is the fact that the monitor supports DisplayPort daisy chaining.

     sooooo, can I not watch protected content in Media Center with DisplayPort daisy chained monitors?
