Windows 8 - Media Center DisplayPort HDCP support nonexistent

This feedback was provided under Windows 7, however action has not been taken to correct this issue for Windows 8 either.

ERROR:

Display driver error – the video playback device does not support playback of protected content.

ISSUE:

Media Center with a CableCard tuner doesn't work at all on DisplayPort, because DisplayPort is not detected as HDCP compliant by Media Center. CableLabs Certifited DisplayPort as HDCP compliant but Media Center still hasn't been updated and it still thinks that it's not compliant.

REQUEST:

Requesting Microsoft to produce a patch so that DisplayPort is detected as HDCP compliant by Media Center.

    I finally got the Display Port to work with Media Center in 7, 8.0, and 8.1

    What I did was after activating the card I went into the media center Extra Galleries and there was a cable logo labeled Digital Cable Advisor to activate it and it worked.  I had already setup the cable card in Media Center Settings --> TV --> TV Signal and ran activate digital cable.  I ran a cable card feature on startup.

    But I only really needed to run the Digital Cable Advisor in the Extras Galleries for it to work.  At least that was the only different step from running it from HDMI previously.

    Even using an end connection that is HDMI to the monitor the problem still exists --- tried DisplayPort to HDMI converter and a converter cable.

    Without Windows Media Center or some other program that will let me record and play the television programs I have recorded via my Time Warner Cablecard and watch them on my computer, I have no reason to continue buying PCs. WMC was my sole reason for continuing to use PCs. Microsoft is going backwards.  So sad. They create a slick product like Surface Pro 3 with even slicker advertising and it is unable to fully utilize one of the the slickest programs ever developed .....  WMC!  They use a mini display port, but fail to validate the DisplayPort as being HDCP compliant.  Instead of dazzling us with animated icons [per the disasterous Windows 8, why not dazzle us with full support of the functions we've integrated into our lives...      Adding insult to injury, they didn't do their homework when they eliminated WMC in Windows 10. DVD player apps are a dime a dozen and no substitute for the TV functions of WMC.  Currently, most cable Cable companies use WMC exclusively  to support their cable-cards.

    Henry -- I don't know of any laptop that allows you to connect its internal Displayport-connected display to the laptop's HDMI output port.  Yes, there's options for external displays but I don't carry those around with my laptop and don't sit one on my lap with the laptop when I'm using my laptop in bed or on the couch.

    Yeah, exactly.

    Of course we'd use something other than DisplayPort to get around this problem if we could. Also, changing inputs every time you want to use WMC (if you have a G-Sync monitor connected with DisplayPort), is a pain in the ****. That's not a solution, it's a bandaid.
