Probems with Windows All-User Install Agent service not able to run

On day 2 after installing Windows 8 on my desktop PC, all user accounts with a standard profile are unable to log on. However, my admin account can log on and I get a message saying that the "Windows All-User Install Agent" is not running hence why non admin accounts cannot connect.

I have restarted the service but it runs for a few seconds and terminates with no message. Several attempts to restart it have failed.

Is this an issue with Windows 8?

Thanks for the response.

The problem had been resolved by the time I got your response. I was at the verge of doing a system restore; but as I was trying to log back in to the PC, the log-on process seemed to be hanging as it went on forever, hence I did a forced shut down by pressing the computer on/off button and leaving it pressed down for several seconds. I then switched on the PC and alas! I logged on smoothly with all the issues gone! Some how the forced shut down as supposed to a normal shut down reset the system to my utmost surprise!!

I assume you can still perform tasks using the admin account, if not let us know.

Try running a system restore to go back prior to when the problem started.

Open the start screen and type "restore" to search. On the settings section, click Create a restore point.

Click System Restore on the System Properties screen then go through the process and select a restore date when you know you could login normally. You may need to check the Shore more restore points box.

If that doesn't work or isn't an option, try running the system file checking tool by searching for "cmd.exe" and in the results, right click the item and select Run as Administrator. In the Command Prompt type the following and press enter: sfc /scannow

After the scan is complete it will say if corrupt files were found or not and if they were repaired. If files were repaired, check if the problem persists. If files were found but not repaired, let us know.

I have a new lap top and the issue popped up today. I have admin and it can log on but my wife doesn't and she can't log on. Any way around it?

I had the same problem. My husband, who was the administrator, was able to log in. Naturally, being the less computer-savvy of the two, he thought I had inadvertently downloaded an infected software. Thank goodness I found this forum and absolved myself.

Microsoft owes me on this one.

Thank you Stephen Adediran. The forced shut-down worked for me as well.

BTW, it came back with a prompt that it'll take 2 days to download important updates. Huh?

It's amazing I have to pay to use this software.
