Error in backup 0x807800C5

I searched the problem a bit more and finally got the Windows 7 Backup to work on my Windows 8 computer.  Here is what I needed to do.  I created a new share on the Western Digital Sentinel running Windows server 2008 Storage and set the permission to allow Everyone with Full Control on this share.  I also allowed Everyone to have Full Control on the folder for this share.  When I configured the Windows 7 Backup on my Windows 8 Pro computer, I still needed to provide a user ID and password.  With these changes, the backup with system image was successful.  Hope this will help.

 

This is the nut of the problem.  Win 8 does not precisely recognize permissions as set under non windows operating systems.  Microsoft has a long history of pushing proprietary MS only solutions in favor over generic industry wide standards. Nothing new here.  It's just extremely frustrating for the end user who only desires to get the job done.

My tests indicated that it is not just any Linux or Unix based NAS devices that are having problems.  Prior to adding a new Windows 8 Pro computer, I have four other Windows 7 computers being backed up to a share on a Western Digital Sentinel DX4000, which is a Windows Server 2008 Storage device.  All the Windows 7 computers can be backed up without any issues, including the system images.  On my new Windows 8 computer, the back up will fail when the destination is on that share.  It will work if I point the destination to locally attached USB hard drive.

To make matter worse, once I configured Windows 7 backup on my Windows 8 computer, I would have to disable Windows 7 backup before I could use the File History feature.   I don't understand why we cannot have two types of backups for redundancy.

of Win 8 Backup, since you have to reinstall everything in case of harddrive crash. 

Not only reinstall but perform all updates and redo all of the configurations.  I don't know about you, but redoing preferences for a program that I normally just have running in the background frequently takes 1/2 an hour or more as I research the settings.  Reinstalling all windows updates alone forget Adobe, Java, Sony, Nero etc. can take hours.
