I installed Windows Live Mail on 6 December 2011 and added a Google Mail account to it. It was working fine until about a week ago when every time I went to check my mail it would give me the following message:

I clicked on the Error tab in that window and there was nothing listed there. I closed out of the windows and clicked on the button to check my mail again and no error message. The next time I want to check my mail I get that error message and I close out of that window and check it again and it works with no issue. It has been like this for about a week and it becoming annoying.
What is the issue and how do I fix it or are Google Mail accounts not compatible with this application. I used the IMAP settings.

I have tried this and still having the same issue. I take it that this is not normal.

This issue may be solved if you perform a clean install of the program.
Before you do this, it would be best to back up your messages. Then, uninstall Live Mail from your computer by following the instructions in this solution article.
Get the latest version of the client from this site. Let us know if the issue still persists.

Why would I need to backup the messages when it is an IMAP account. I thought the messages would be there When I re-add the account.

As for the IMAP, when you read an email message using IMAP, you aren't actually downloading or storing it on your computer; instead, you are reading it off of the server. As a result, it's possible to check your email from several different devices without missing a thing. IMAP does not move messages from the server to your computer; instead, it synchronizes the email that's on your computer with the email that's on the server.
