I installed Windows Live Mail on 6 December 2011 and added a Google Mail account to it. It was working fine until about a week ago when every time I went to check my mail it would give me the following message:

I clicked on the Error tab in that window and there was nothing listed there. I closed out of the windows and clicked on the button to check my mail again and no error message. The next time I want to check my mail I get that error message and I close out of that window and check it again and it works with no issue. It has been like this for about a week and it becoming annoying.
What is the issue and how do I fix it or are Google Mail accounts not compatible with this application. I used the IMAP settings.

I had this problem too. Tried to fix Windows live mail thru Essentials. Reloaded both my hotmail accounts. Finally used control 5 and had no news groups but clicked on Microsoft Community and unchecked ...include this account when checking for messages and it stopped the error. This error evidently is more common and should be on microsofts radar. Poor Noel. I am running Firefox and Norton 360 and Vista. I'm good now. FYI Debby
I also used Noel's suggestions to correct the same error message.
Control 5 to get to the news screen
then open the account tab (left click)
then Left click on properties
on the general tab I found only one news group and was Microsoft community
I unchecked the check at the bottom of that box (include this account when checking for messages) and that stopped the error message
