Additional Details

I installed Windows Live Mail on 6 December 2011 and added a Google Mail account to it.  It was working fine until about a week ago when every time I went to check my mail it would give me the following message:

Windows Live Mail

Some errors occurred while processing the requested tasks.

Please review the list of errors below for more details.

1 of 2 tasks have completed successfully

I clicked on the Error tab in that window and there was nothing listed there.  I closed out of the windows and clicked on the button to check my mail again and no error message.  The next time I want to check my mail I get that error message and I close out of that window and check it again and it works with no issue.  It has been like this for about a week and it becoming annoying.

What is the issue and how do I fix it or are Google Mail accounts not compatible with this application.  I used the IMAP settings.

    Noel,

I have tried that with IE 8 and it is still crippled.  I have used Norton products since Norton Anti-Virus back in 2002 and made the move to Norton 360 in 2007.  I have used McAfee Anti-Virus (back in 2002) and had issues with updates being installed.  I had to uninstall McAfee and the re-install it in order to install the updates.  I know that is not normal and that is why I made the move to Symantecs. I have used the free anti-virus software from Microsoft to do trial/error  with Norton on another system when formatting the hard drive to remove Vista and then insert a Windows 7 full version disc and install it.  I remember that Norton might be conflicting with it and removed Norton and downloaded and installed the free software from Microsoft to see if Norton was the cause and it was still having the same issues.  Then I had issues uninstalling the Microsoft anti-virus software and had to use instructions to uninstall it using the Command Prompt.  I found out that there was a glitch with the Windows install and formatted the drive and did a system re-install and it was fine after that.  That is why I have stayed with Norton.  The only real issue I have with Norton right now is that it sometimes blocks the connection with Microsoft Xbox 360 when I want to use Media Center.

Would a repair install of Windows help.

OK. I'm very sorry - my fingers were on autopilot when I made my last post. I should not have written ...and press Enter. This will select the topmost search result, which will normally be Internet Explorer, and this is what happened in your case. If you simply type   internet   into the box, a number of results will appear, one of which - under Control Panel - will be Internet Options. That's the one to select. Please try again.

    > *I am using Norton 360.*I'm inclined to think that this is the root of all your problems. Norton applications are notoriously aggressive, which means that the chances of catching something nasty are lower than for those using less aggressive software. But this security comes at a price. To achieve the high degree of protection, Norton has to infiltrate every dark corner of your OS, and this can interfere both with the functioning of the OS and with the installation of other programs. If you regularly visit 'dodgy' websites or use file-sharing applications, you probably need this level of protection and will have to accept the problems it causes. If you only do 'ordinary' things on the Internet and generally take care what you use your computer for, you would probably be better served with a lightweight anti-malware program like Microsoft Security Essentials coupled with an occasional virus scan using another effective program like MalwareBytes Anti-Malware (both of these are free for non-business users).

Sadly, the only way to find out whether Norton is indeed the culprit is to uninstall it completely using the removal tool available at the Symantec website and then conduct some tests without it. You should install alternative protection before doing so. If you really want to get to the bottom of your problems with Internet Explorer and Windows Live Mail, I think you're going to have to bite this bullet.

I will respond to Noel since he can comprehend all of my responses and no one else seems to be able to.

    Noel,

    As for the response to:

Type Internet into the start search box and press enter

I typed Internet into the search box and pressed enter and the Start Menu left the screen and Internet Explorer opened and crashed.  There was no option to select Internet options after pressing enter.

    As for your answer to:

What security software are you running

I am using Norton 360.  I have used it since Norton 360 v1.0 dating back to December 2007 and have continued to use it up to this day and now using Norton 360 v5.0
