Nokia Belle Refresh update just launched

Hi all,

great news! We just started to roll out our next update for Symbian called Nokia Belle Refresh for Nokia N8, Nokia E7, Nokia C7, Nokia C6-01, Nokia X7 and Nokia Oro with version number 111.040.1511 (Nokia E6, version number 111.140.0058, will follow still this week, Nokia 500 updates will follow shortly).

This update again brings new features to Symbian smartphones, for example:

- a new browser with HTML5 web apps support, a new set of homescreen widgets, and the previously released Microsoft Office Mobile App and Nokia Maps Suite 2.0 in one package.

- Nokia N8 will have some extra apps for imaging

The update will be rolled out in phases, starting with the vanilla versions (ie. basic software variants without any specific operator or country configuration). Country and operator variants will follow within the next weeks, depending on local and operator approvals.

pS: Just like after updating from Nokia Anna to Nokia Belle, some apps may not work due to compatibility issues. If you need more information on available apps, please contact your local Nokia Care support. Furthermore, you can also contact the respective App developer to enquire about the compatibility.

No guessing what the next question is then: who in Nokia do we contact to make our voices heard about how much we want our devices supported by getting these updates promptly? My N8 is still under warranty!!

Unfortunately I think I know the answer...

Is it Nokia or T-Mobile?

I cannot get a straight answer, each company says it's the other.

If it's T-Mobile and they don't bother publishing it (end-of-life phone) how can I get it for my phone?

Nokia has to supply the update to T-Mobile, T-Mobile has to approve it, then Nokia pushes it out. T-Mobile is probably still waiting for the update.

If in the end you're stuck with a product code that's been forgotten about you could try a Nokia Care Centre so they can flash another version or possibly even change your product code (the second is preferable as that means you won't have to go back to the care centre again for the update after that but it depends how friendly they are) or do it yourself but unfortunately as this is an official Nokia board I can't explain how.

I'm puzzled as to why this Update (Belle Refresh) is taking so long when we went from ANNA to Belle I found no need to research the above criteria also the Carriers were not even mentioned as being relevant to that Update, in addition the HomeScreen Widgets Update was a complete mystery to me and after coming to this Forum are Still a mystery :)

Question to anyone who knows, when going from ANNA to Belle I lost an App called LOVEFiLM - Long story (phoned Lovefilm and Nokia visited BETALABS) cut short they don;t even do it anymore now,

Anyway at the moment I find myself liking another App called BBC iPLAYER and have a nice widget of it on my Homescreen will I also lose that if by some chance I too am offered the Belle Refesh Update ? because when I went to the BBC iPlayer site using my Wife's Phone it would appear I will definitely lose the ability to play their contents thereafter :(

Your wife's phone can't be locked to T-Mobile if it has that product code and is a Euro1 UK/Ireland variant. T-Mobiles' product code is 059D4S1.

I can tell you that the carriers certainly did matter when going from Anna to Belle, so I'm not sure where you got that information from.

As for the iPlayer question, you've answered that one yourself by testing it on your wifes' phone with the Refresh update.
