HI

I am having Acer Aspire 5738G laptop which is installed with genuine windows 7 Home Premuim OS.

I bought it on 12-12-2009 and now on this date 12-12-2011 , i am receiving a warning message about my battery .

The problem is :

In the taskbar ,the battery icon appears with a crossed symbol in red like English alphabet "x" . And when i mouse over it , the help text says " Charging percentage and the message " Consider replacing your battery "  that is like (for example)

97% available( plugged in , charging )

Consider replacing your battery

this is the condition when my laptop is plugged in..

And when , it is not plugged in , the red crossed simple appears different that is , white crossed symbol(x) in red circle which is always blinking . when i mouse over this a message appears as below ,

97% remaining .

Consider replacing your battery..

And i have not anything regarding this problem , didn't to any hardware service people .. Because i need some clear idea about problem  from experts here ..

And when i received this message at first today(12-12-2011) , I just shut down my system , removed my batterty , and replaced and put it back on system and turned on , expecting the problem solved , but  it didn't make any change . this is only step i have done ..

I think i had explained my problem clearly .Hope U ll understand . Expecting Good Answers . Thank You

Hi Hari2202

The Li-ion battery installed in your computer has a life expectancy of 1 to 3 years.

Every battery has a maximum charging capacity that will slowly be reduced over a period of time. There is nothing that can be done to slow down or stop this reduction, even if the battery is never used.

Windows 7 receives data reports from the charging circuit chips and passes this to the user. When the full charging capacity falls below 40% of the original charging capacity, the 'Consider replacing your battery' message will be displayed.

You can create a detailed report of the battery status to double check the condition of the battery.

1. Go to Start / All Programs / Accessories. Right click the Command Prompt and select Run As Administrator.

2. In the command prompt window, copy/paste or type the following command.

powercfg -energy -output %userprofile%\desktop\energy-report.html

Press ENTER.

This will create a file named energy-report.html and place it on your Desktop.

3. Go to the Desktop and double click the file to open.

Scroll down to the Battery: Battery Information section.

You will see:

Design Capacity xxxxx

Last Full Charge xxxxx

(Where xxxxx is a number)

Copy those 2 lines and paste them in a reply to this post. We can take a look at this and give you an analysis of what these numbers mean.

Regards

Hi,

Yes, you can even power off and remove the battery then use the computer with

no battery in it only on AC power.

Did you check the troubleshooter I previously posted? Cleaning the battery terminals,

if possible, and the other methods sometimes help to revive a weak battery. Of course

batteries age with use and/or time so the battery is weaker than when new.

Hope this helps and Happy Holidays!

Hi,

The battery may be worn and need to be replaced, the battey contacts could need to be cleaned (if they  can be), or there could be other hardware or software issues. Check with a real computer shop (one that does its own in-house servicing) or Acer's Support.

Acer - USA - Service and Support - Drivers

http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support

Acer - Worldwide

http://www.acer.com/worldwide/selection.html

References to Vista also apply to Windows 7.

Check with System maker's Support, their on-line documentation and drivers, and their forums (if any) for known issues. Some maker's have issued BIOS and other updates to help with battery problems.

====================================================

Do these to clear corruption and repair/replace damaged/missing system files.

Run DiskCleanup - Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Cleanup

Start - type in Search box -  COMMAND   find at top of list -  RIGHT CLICK  -  RUN AS ADMIN

Other information that might help :

Control Panel - Power Options - Power Plans - Change plan Settings - check the Advanced Settings for drain and usage settings (this is how much to be used and not how much or how long to charge). Actually what causes a lot of wear on a battery is draining it too low repeatedly. With today's systems over-charging is not an issue.

Here are some tips to help and troubleshoot battery related issues.

Old battery? Unplug power to computer - remove battery and clean the contacts with a pencil eraser (do not use this if your battery has thin slots - just clean the knife edges that fit into them and be careful). Batteries do wear out if old, or it could be a problem with the computer.

Check with the support of the system maker and many of them have on-line forums.

Newer type Litium-Ion batteries usually last longer if you do not discharge them below 30% however on a laptop that will not extend their life that much. Best is to use A/C adapter whenever possible.

I use the free version of BatteryBar to monitor my battery. Click the Green button on the Yellow box on right side of page to download latest stable version.

    Hi

    Design Capacity 48600

    Last Full Charge 17798

These numbers indicate that you have 36% of the original charging capacity left in that battery.

You will see the Consider replacing the battery warning when this number falls below 40%.
