In Chrome 37.x go to chrome://flags and disable DirectWrite. That's the first thing i did with this update.

I did a clean install of Windows 8 RTM when it became available.
The blurry font rendering that plagued the Preview versions has remained.
It is particularly bad in IE10 and Office 2013.
No amount of adjustment with Clear Type tuner helps much.
I have tried all the fixes recommended like ticking "use Software rendering instead of GPU rendering" in IE10 and in Options in Office 2013.
It makes absolutely no difference.
I installed Windows 8 on completely different hardware to check if it was a graphics card issue. The poor font rendering was still there.
I am currently dual booting Windows 7 and 8 on the same PC. Fonts in Windows 7 remain perfectly clear. In windows 8 they are so bad, the OS is basically unusable.
How do I get readable fonts in Windows 8?
Hardware: ASUS P8Z77-V PRO, Intel Core i7 3770K, ASUS Radeon HD7770 graphics, Samsung Syncmaster 2443BW 24 inch monitor.

Very similar symptom description here that started on the RP. Older Radeon (mobile ICIM) and slightly smaller Samsung LED monitor (used as a projector) in my case. What I had to do is stop using my monitor's native resolution and drop it down a notch. Coincidentally that left me with a resolution ratio that was the same as my Tablet (e.g. no evidence of wide-screen from the ratio). I thought that would mean that it couldn't support split screen mode but in fact it does! So, I really don't lose much by choosing a squarer resolution ratio and at least the text is legible.
BTW this has just reminded me that someone posted a link to AMD's Catalyst site and it looks as if they might have something for me...
Up to now AMD were just pointing me to HP which still don't have anything for me. ; [

I also have the problem with the fuzzy text in Windows 8. It is pretty bad as I cannot focus on reading anything without my eyes hurting and giving me a headache. In Windows 7, the display/font is very crisp and easy to read and on the eyes, but in Windows 8 it is pretty bad.
I have a HP DV6 with switchable graphics, with the latest drivers. any I tried everything as the original poster, and nothing is helping.
How do I get readable fonts back in Windows 8?

2012-10-27T22:22:20+00:00 Me too. Fonts are clear in Chrome but look blurry in IE 10. It looks bad on yahoo and MSN pages. I thought this was fixed (I had win 7 with IE9 and did not notice this issue) so I upgraded assuming IE10 is enhanced version of IE9.
My laptop is Samsung series 5 with intel HD 4000 graphics. Any ideas how to fix it?

2012-10-28T00:38:50+00:00 Having the same issue. Chrome looks great, as do the menus, URL bar etc in IE just not the actual page content.
Lenovo T430s with HD4000/Nvidia NVS 5200 doesn't seem to make any difference which card I switch to.
