Windows 8 Touch Screen not working on my Gateway ZX6971

I have a Gateway ZX6971 all in one touch screen. I recently downloaded the windows 8 release preview  and i cant find anyway to get my touch screen capabilities working again. Is there a way to fix this problem? I tried reintalling the Card Reader Driver and try to open some touch programs in capability mode. Is there anything I can do to do my touch screen back? It worked fine in Windows 7. Any help or advice would be great! Thank you!

Hi ssackfield88,

This issue may be a display driver issue. I checked Gateway's website for available drivers for the ZX6971 and there are no Windows 8 drivers. Use the contact us link here to see when or if drivers will be available to support Windows 8 on your computer.

Got the driver, but it didn't work. It recognizes my device but still provides no functionality. I'd noticed that the ZX4951 was absent from their list, and even from the list of devices "not compatible," with the update.  I am slowly but steadily suspecting that Gateway doesn't want to acknowledge that this make and model exists, haha.

Edit: I've contacted Gatway on the matter. I doubt that they will have an answer, but I know that there was at least one other person here with my model. Will post the response when I get it.

They've basically told me that the only way to get it back is to re-install 7. They don't have drivers for that model, and are basically leaving it at that.

    Nice customer support, Gateway.

The driver is now available on Gateway's support site.  I installed it today and it works great.

I have the ZX6971 and this worked after I restarted my computer.

Side swipes and top down are difficult due to the bezels.  I see that the new models at best by don't have this issue due to bezels and the screen being on the same level surface.  Oh well...

    SmashingSeltzer,

I have the ZX4951. Here is what i did to get full functionality back, just like it was in the release preview of Windows 8.

I uninstalled any IdeaCom drivers and programs I have tried in the past few weeks to fix the issue. (This part is very important.)

I downloaded the IdeaCom Touch Driver for the ZX4971. Select Windows 8 x64 from the Operating System drop down, and then download the driver.

I installed the driver by running the setup.exe, restarted the computer and all is back to normal.

Hope this works for you also!

    Thanks,

    Dan
