Windows 8 Touch Screen not working on my Gateway ZX6971

I have a Gateway ZX6971 all in one touch screen. I recently downloaded the windows 8 release preview  and i cant find anyway to get my touch screen capabilities working again. Is there a way to fix this problem? I tried reintalling the Card Reader Driver and try to open some touch programs in capability mode. Is there anything I can do to do my touch screen back? It worked fine in Windows 7. Any help or advice would be great! Thank you!

Hi ssackfield88,

This issue may be a display driver issue. I checked Gateway's website for available drivers for the ZX6971 and there are no Windows 8 drivers. Use the contact us link here to see when or if drivers will be available to support Windows 8 on your computer.

I am going to try "Driver Genius" and upgrade the Intel chipset drivers.  It looks like the ones embedded within Windows 8 are from 2006?

I have the same computer, and my touch worked fine with w7. I was just surfing trying to resolve this matter. I thought I might have some luck when I ran across your post. I called gateway by way of India and had no luck. but I was instructed by Microsoft to keep checking the driver updates on the website. good luck, and spread the love.

    Hi all,

I've been told that Windows 8 (Retail) supports Touch Screen with 5-Points Digitizers and up.

Unfortunately most systems manufactured before 2012, have 2-Points Digitizers, hence Windows 8 will not recognise them as having Touch capabilities.

Sorry, but this is not true.

While our touchscreens will not be as effective or "fancy" as newer touchscreens - they will indeed work just as well as they did on Window 7 and the earlier versions of Windows 8.  Touch, scroll, pinch-to-zoom, and the like will all still work.

New computers shipping out may have the need to have the 5-points in order for them to be labeled as "touch compatible" for Windows 8 - but Microsoft won't shut down existing support.

We won't be able to multi-touch for effective onscreen typing - but our touchscreens will work. It is a driver problem - not a hardware problem.

Remember - the majority of us had working touchscreens in earlier Windows 8 versions.
