"Restart to repair drive errors" keep showing up after reboot

Hi all,

I recently used the error checking tool on my internal hard drive on my laptop. It found errors and told me to reboot. Now everytime I boot my pc a message in the action center pops up saying "Restart to repair drive errors", and no matter how many times I try, it still tells me there are drive errors.

I can't seem to find any more details on the exact errors. I run Windows 8 Pro. Can anyone help me or point me in the right direction?

EDIT: Running Chkdsk from the command promt returns a similar error, albeit a little more wordy: "Chkdsk cannot run because the volume [the C: drive, the one that has errors -RF] in in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts?" Replying <y> and rebooting, gives the same errors: the action center still tells me to reboot, and Chkdsk returns the same message as before.

I also tried running sfc, just for good measure. The log created (CBS.log) shows several errors at the bottom, seemingly all pertaining to autochk.exe, in some way or another.

I wonder if this may have been caused by running drive optimization and stopping prematurely (in order to reboot for the error checking utility).

    The disk drive error is a constant warning on my PC at the moment - and I believe that it's software related - either Windows upgrades or AdAware 11.

    I have regularly run CHKDSK and it finds no problems - to get rid of the annoying Action Center message - go into Action Center and turn off the drive status message!

    To avoid the CHKDSK seeming to stall on 17% I suggest that you run it with the following command chkdsk /spotfix. CHKDSK is always running in the background and the spotfix command will only address any problems found by the background runs. It also has the advantage of showing a progress %age as it runs following a reboot.

    I believe it is some software that is causing this issue. If you remember when you started to see this issue and can think of the softwares that you installed at that time, try to uninstall them and see.. For me, the antivirus program "Ad-aware" was the issue.. I removed the program a week ago and I have not seen that notification after that.

    I too am having "Restart to repair drive errors" - both on my laptop (ASUS, N51V) and on my PC - and soon after the latest WIN 8.1 automatic update! I ran 'CHKDSK /f /r c:' after re-booting from Win 8 Pro/64. NO ERRORS found on the Laptop. The message is still occuring.

    Can I ignore it and turn off disk drive message reporting on my laptop?

    I am running the same command on my PC and CHKDSK seems to be stuck on 17% (30 min+ now). Can I safely abort?

    Will RECOVERY to the last checkpoint solve anything?

    Strange this message only started to appear on separate devices soon after the latest updates!

    Same experience here! No matter how many times I reboot, the error message re-appears in Action Center. chkdsk finds nothing nor does drive error check. I believe that this issue started a few days ago after I'd installed the latest batch of MS updates

    Same here on my Surface Pro (Windows 8.0, still questioning Windows 8.1); it began showing this error when my FreeAgent GoFlex HDD (connected to a USB 3.0 hub) randomly disconnected during the process of moving some movies from my MicroSD card to the HDD. Restarting several times didn't fix it.

    Instead clicking Properties > Tools > Check on the drive (under My Computer) and performing the error checking operation made the error go away. However, CHKDSK came up empty handed; it said no errors were found on the HDD :s
