Windows XP Computer Overall Slow, Freezing & Locking Up.

My Mom's Windows XP Computer is overall slow, freezing & locking up mostly all the time. I don't have the money right now to pay for Premium Support through Microsoft to get it fixed. Can anybody please help me get this issue resolved immediately! It's been like this for a while. I just want my mom's computer to run normally like any other computer would. Please! Let me know. I appreciate it. Thanks.

    Finally! :-)

    Just as I suspected. For the workload your PC is normally under, you simply do not have enough RAM. If you were to double the amount, your performance would surely improve.

    If you go to http://www.crucial.com/ and run the Memory Advisor Tool, you will get a good match. Post a link to the results if you think you need guidance.

    But...

    I still need you to post the CPU usage (percentage) figures! This image should help you understand what I am asking for:

    As you can see, the top three processes and their corresponding CPU percentages are:

    System Idle Process 92

    iexplore.exe 11

    SnagIt32.exe 03

    What are your top seven?

    AND

    Please repeat the process for Mem Usage whenever your PC seems sluggish.

    Last question for now:

    Is your PC its worst when you first turn it on? (Like for the first ten minutes or so?)

    And like you said, they always change. Those were the numbers I just got now but they just changed now. The CPU usage figures under the Performance tab? Or, under the Processes tab? I think you also said, you needed the Physical Memory? Physical Memory (K)

    System Cache: 147240

    These also just changed now too. Those were the numbers I just got now too. I don't know if you needed the Physical Memory. I know you said on this page on the one post, you said you needed Physical Memory. It's here if you want it. If not, don't worry about it. Let me know. Thanks.

    No need to repeat that, then. I see you have 512 MB of physical RAM.

    You need to give me those three Commit Charge figures, then. Also, the CPU usage figures!

    We will deal with the hard drive's transfer mode later (DMA vs. PIO).
