My Mom's Windows XP Computer is overall slow, freezing & locking up mostly all the time. I don't have the money right now to pay for Premium Support through Microsoft to get it fixed. Can anybody please help me get this issue resolved immediately! It's been like this for a while. I just want my mom's computer to run normally like any other computer would. Please! Let me know. I appreciate it. Thanks.

2012-10-29T21:04:09+00:00 Mark, there was one thing I did forget to ask. We need to see how much physical memory you have and how much memory your system seems to require
Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) and click the Performance tab. Then note the three values under Commit Charge (K): in the lower left-hand corner: Total, Limit, and Peak.
The Total figure represents the amount of memory you are using at that very moment. The Peak figure represents the highest amount of memory you used since last bootup. If both these figures are below the value of Physical Memory (K) Total, then you probably have plenty of RAM.
However, if they are above the value of your physical memory, there is an issue.
Also, do this:
While in Task Manager, click the Processes tab. Then click TWICE where it says CPU in order to arrange in decreasing order. Let us know the top seven processes and their values.
Do the same with the Mem Usage column header.

As long as you are 100% sure it is not her on PC, yes, you do not need to worry about it.
Just click on Start | Search.
If you see "Search Companion," that is the original Windows Search. That is what you want. The window will look like this:
You can also turn off and then disable INDEXING. See:
