How do I mass delete junk mail in Hotmail on Windows 8?

How can I mass delete emails from my junk and deleted folder?  Takes too long to highlight and delete 7 or 8 at a time.

Hi atomikbomb,

Certainly, there is an option of delete all of these emails in the Junk and deleted folders. There are two ways of going about manually- which means, you have to perform yourself the steps below:

  1. After signing in to your account, go to each of this folder.
  2. On the top of these emails, tick the box before the word ALL.
  3. Click delete menu above Junk or Deleted folder.

Another way to do it manually is doing the following steps:

  1. Hover the mouse cursor over the folder.
  2. Right click and choose empty folder.

    Same problem.  I can delete in Hotmail but they remain in Windows 8.  ARGH!!!

    He is referring to the web app, same issue that makes no sense how is that an email client if you cannot mass delete without having to highlight everything. Only and this is my only complain with win8. The apps need more features to compete against their desktop counterparts. honestly how are you suppose to market win8's new look and appearance and functionality when there is NO functionality to mention. multi tasking between apps all in full screen mode I can tolerate just fine. but the lack of options/features in an app is a joke. the normal "file" "save" "view" etc options are gone, why? who says that we as users don't use those options anymore? who decided this design format? I hope windows "blue" fixes this issue, or a next update fixes it. other than that I am happy with win8

    This is the best summary I've heard of the Win8 apps.  After all the hype, its a collection of half-baked applications.  MS looks absolutely silly coming out with these apps.  My wife, a 'general public' user, is already complaining that the email app isn't even as good as the iPad email app, which is severely limited.  The updates can't come fast enough for me...

    Hello everyone,

     

    If you are accessing your account through web mail, you can try these steps below.

     

    1. On your mail page, you can see the folders on the left pane.
    2. Right click the folder you want to empty.
    3. On the pop up box that will appear, select Empty folder.

    This solution is and has always been available in Windows Live Mail and Hotmail and in the Office Outlook Web App. The problem is that there is no "Empty Folder" option in Windows 8 Mail app for the "Deleted" or "Junk" folders. You have to remove them, first from "Inbox" and "Junk" and then from "Deleted," within the Windows 8 Mail app or log in to Live Mail to "Empty" these folders with a minimum of button clicking. What a nuisance. I have found that it is possible to select more than one item at a time within each folder by right-clicking each item and then "deleting." You still have to perform this on "Inbox" and "Junk" to clear them of unwanted mail first and then perform the same action on the "Deleted" folder. I have just tried the "Ctrl+a" suggestion and it works to select all items in the folder.
