wifi does not have a valid ip configuration windows 8

After upgrading to Windows 8 Final Version

it worked fine for 2 days then, WIFI stoped working.

every time I try to connect it gives me limited connection.

when I try trouble shout it give me the following message :" wifi does not have a valid ip configuration ".

even trying a cable connection, same message appear.

I somehow managed to get on my neighbor WIFI not sure how that happened, but I can only use internet on Desktop mode,

Metro interface have no access to wifi.

I would like to know if you can assist me with this issue?

I was having this problem too. Solved it by following the directions here:

This part in the first reply fixed the problem:

"With upgrades sometimes winsock or the TCP/IP stack gets corrupted. To reset them both type the following two commands into an elevated command prompt one at a timehitting enter after each one then reboot the system.

netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries)

netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)"

    OK

    i ended up having to do everything

    netsh commands did not work

    tried static IP address.  All of a sudden the wifi adopter saw the network and would connect, but still no internet access. Apparently it couldn't access the DNS.  Tried several known working DNS - no joy

    at the same time avast told me it couldn't use secure dns

    disabled avast - no joy

    removed avast entirely, disabled windows firewall, and did the netsh commands again

    all of a sudden it worked.

    To those still having problems, here's what I did:

    I eventually gave up on the command prompt commands, as none would work, regedit settings defaulted back and nothing changed.

    I instead logged into my router and set up a static IP for my PC. Provided you have, or can acquire your router login (user and password), this is usually a easy task. I have a Tilgin router, and as I didn't want to contact my ISP, and no password information was available online, I eventually guessed it to be username: admin and password: admin (this particular router is case sensitive)

    Press windows + R and type "cmd". In command prompt, type: ipconfig /all

    A big list of information should now appear.

    Try to find a title called "Wireless LAN adapter Wi-FI" (may be different for you)

    In the list below Wi-Fi, take note of the "Physical Address" (MAC-address).

    If you're in the same situation as me, the default gateway is probably empty. I checked this on my iphone and it was 192.168.80.1

    This is the router IP which you will need to connect to your router. Typically this is 192.168.0.1 or 10.0.0.1

    As all routers are different, I can't go into detail on how to set up, other than that you have to find a static IP option in the router, portforward.com can help you with this: http://portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm

    I'm sorry I can't help you further, but I had to share it, as it solved my problem

    Idk why this worked for me but under my router settings on a different computer that was working I had to enable the ipv6 and check the box for automatically detect/assign on everything
