wifi does not have a valid ip configuration windows 8

After upgrading to Windows 8 Final Version

it worked fine for 2 days then, WIFI stoped working.

every time I try to connect it gives me limited connection.

when I try trouble shout it give me the following message :" wifi does not have a valid ip configuration ".

even trying a cable connection, same message appear.

I somehow managed to get on my neighbor WIFI not sure how that happened, but I can only use internet on Desktop mode,

Metro interface have no access to wifi.

I would like to know if you can assist me with this issue?

I was having this problem too. Solved it by following the directions here:

This part in the first reply fixed the problem:

"With upgrades sometimes winsock or the TCP/IP stack gets corrupted. To reset them both type the following two commands into an elevated command prompt one at a timehitting enter after each one then reboot the system.

netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries)

netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)"

    I had AVG also, same ****, no valid IP config.......after a bunch of googling and tech support followed by some temp fixes I searched AVG + no IP config and found this discussion. I uninstalled AVG and poof immediately connected. I just reinstalled it with the basic protection only and waiting to see what happens! At least I know what the problem is now, although I couldn't say why it was the problem.......

    This worked finally!

    1. right click on network icon in the system tray
    2. select 'Network and Sharing Center'
    3. select 'Setup a new connection on network'
    4. select 'Manually connect to a wireless network'
    5. then type following; 

            Security type:      WPA2-Personal

            Encryption type: AES

    Now my laptop's wifi connects to Nexus 7 LTE and also connects to the internet and stays until I quit.

    Yesterday some new updates where installed and after that "no internet connection". Tried the command and also netsh advfirewall reset and a couple of reboots later it worked. Very frustrating ! Hopefully MS acknowledges that there are problems. I pretty technical but not everyone understands this... I think there is a relation between the windows Update

    I did everything mentioned before this post, and nothing worked. I have windows 10, and as everybody has mentioned this happened after  the latest update, the same as previous updates. This time was even more stubborn,

    Thanks to this last post I did command prompt as admin. typed  

    netsh advfirewall reset

    enter and restart.

    That did the trick !!!!

    Hope this helps someone else with windows 10.
