wifi does not have a valid ip configuration windows 8

After upgrading to Windows 8 Final Version

it worked fine for 2 days then, WIFI stoped working.

every time I try to connect it gives me limited connection.

when I try trouble shout it give me the following message :" wifi does not have a valid ip configuration ".

even trying a cable connection, same message appear.

I somehow managed to get on my neighbor WIFI not sure how that happened, but I can only use internet on Desktop mode,

Metro interface have no access to wifi.

I would like to know if you can assist me with this issue?

I was having this problem too. Solved it by following the directions here:

This part in the first reply fixed the problem:

"With upgrades sometimes winsock or the TCP/IP stack gets corrupted. To reset them both type the following two commands into an elevated command prompt one at a timehitting enter after each one then reboot the system.

netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries)

netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)"

    just set your adapter to static ip. it worked for me several times.

    In my case what works was entering into the Wi-Fi properties window and unmarking every item of the list, then entering again and marking each item and selecting OK.

    Wow, this was very helpful. I had to google to see how to run command pront as an administrator. but the fix fix worked the first time. I wish microsoft update fixes this automatically as people use wifi everyday. 

    Sorry to say, that is why I keep a Mac with me all the time. Maybe time to time to just ship once and for all.

    This issue was a pain.

    I'm current using Asus RT-N56U router and I suddenly remember after perform a firmware update for my router ever since then all seems wrong, that's when I got my Limited Network. This issue doesn't happen whenever I tether to my ipad so I strongly suspect it must be related to router firmware.

    As my system is running on Windows 8 64Bit, naturally the firmware update file for my router I will look under the same category but then again, I recall I don't experience the Limited Network at all when my router is on Windows 7 32Bit firmware. Since there's no solution to date, I decided to give it a try and revert back the firmware to Windows 7 32Bit version.

    Guess what, my connection somehow back to normal and I don't get to see the yellow exclamation icon on the network bar anymore for the past 2 days so I suggest you guys to try it out and install the firmware for Windows 7 32Bit for your router and see whether it works. It seems to work for mine but no harm for you guys to try it and meanwhile I will monitor it for the next few days.
