What is a bad pool header and how do I fix it?

Windows has been taking 30 or so minutes to start. I've tried repairing it but nothing seems to work and now I'm getting a blue screen that says "bad pool header".

Hi,

Have you made any changes to the computer prior to the issue?
Do you get any specific error codes?

A pool header issue is a problem with Windows memory allocation. Device driver issues are probably the most common, but this can have diverse causes including bad sectors or other disk write issues, and problems with some routers. (By theory, RAM problems would be suspect for memory pool issues).

Method 1:

Disconnect any external devices connected to the computer except the mouse and keyboard, check what happens.

With Windows 7, you can run a check disk from system recovery options using command prompt.

Method 2:

If the above step fails follow the steps:

Step 1:

Restart computer in safe mode and check if the issue persists. Follow the steps in the link:

Step 2:

If safe mode works restart computer in clean boot and check if the issue persists.Follow “step 1” in the link to enable to clean boot:

Follow the step 7 from the article to “Reset the computer to start as usual”, after performing the clean boot troubleshooting.

Method 3:

If the above step fails follow the steps in the link:

simple A bad pool header is cause by a simple problem with file management

simple solution goto safe mode

choose command

type fsscan.msc

enter

wait fixes all good bye

Read my post from 2 years ago. First with nothing connected and starting in safe mode without anything connected run machine. It should start in safe mode. If it does and runs then shut the machine down, make sure everything and I mean everything is unplugged and if possible use a separately plugged in mouse and keyboard, the old green and purple ones. Disconnect from the mains, and make sure machine is switched off. Go away and have a coffee and after you cooling off and having had said coffee plug in the mouse, and keyboard and NOTHING ELSE now plug in the mains lead into back of machine, then switch the switch on at the back of the machine, and then hit the start button. Does it work? Right if it has, now shut down the machine properly and reconnect the modem and restart the machine, does it work OK. If not then go back to the restore and take the machine back to 2 updates before you had the problem. However normally the starting the way I have said works. It is good for nearly all BSODs on MS proggies. Gosh this is going back 2 years for me now, ouch. Do see my older post on here!

I did this and it worked. Then I started getting other errors. I then did a C: scan and repair and no more error messages. It has been 2 weeks and still no errors.
